Ultimate New England- Detailed Itinerary 2012

July 21: Students arrive at Manchester Regional Airport (MHT) or the White Mountain School by 1 pm.

July 22: Day Hike in Crawford Notch State Park.

July 23-26: Backpack for 4-days in the Pemigewasset Wilderness and Franconia Ridge.  This rocky, rugged mountainous area provides opportunities to see spectacular views, as well as possible moose sightings. Camp in wilderness sites beside beautiful rivers you will never forget.

July 27-30: Head back to the White Mountain School campus and get ready to spend 2 full days rock climbing and then 2 day mountain biking (the groups will flip flop).  Spend one day at Rumney and one at Echo Crag, both located in northern New Hampshire. There are fantastic climbs for all ability levels.  Bike for 2 days on the #1 rated mountain bike trail network (by Bike Magazine) in North America!  These Vermont trails are perfect for beginners, as well as advanced riders.  While mountain biking, ride gentle single-track paths or long up hills with thrilling downhill’s.  Either way, your biking day is a lot of fun, and you will enjoy a scenic picnic lunch.

July  31: Logistics day.  (Food shop, do laundry and wash vans).

August 1-2: Experience the finest rafting in the Northeast: the West Branch of the Penobscot River.  Paddle 2 different sections, one day in inflatable kayaks and the second day in a raft.  This class II-IV river has spectacular views of Mt. Katahdin, if you can take your eyes off the huge water long enough to enjoy them.  We will spend 2 nights camping in beautiful spots along this remote river.

August 3-4: Summit Mt. Washington!  Stop by the Pinkham Notch Visitors Center and learn about the mountain with the world’s highest recorded wind speed.  Hike to Tuckerman Ravine for the night. Your summit climb begins before the sun rises!  At the highest point in the Northeast you'll be above the clouds.   Enjoy a farewell dinner and your final night at the White Mountain School.

August 5: Students depart from Manchester Regional Airport (MHT) or the White Mountain School by 1 pm.

We reserve the right to alter the itinerary prior to and throughout the trip as we constantly improve the Adventure Treks experience.   Itineraries may change due to: Severe weather, student ability, motivation and conditioning, high or low rivers, high or low snow pack, unpredictable natural disasters and acts of God, vehicle breakdowns, road closures, volcanic activity, forest fires, illness, ever changing permit regulations, any potential threat to safety; even a brilliant idea from an instructor or student. In the event of a schedule change, comparable activities will be substituted when possible and you will be notified by e-mail of significant changes.

FAQ’s about this trip:

Is this the best trip for me?

The Ultimate New England is a perfect trip for students who are currently in 9-11th grade.  With 24 students in the group, you will be challenged appropriately because we break up into small groups for each activity based on your interest and ability.  Students spend time at our basecamp between activities, so this is a great trip for students who want the next step beyond summer camp.

Where is the basecamp located?

The White Mountain School address is:

371 West Farm Road
Bethlehem, NH 03574

What if I've never flown across country before?

Most of the students on the Ultimate New England are first-time travelers.  Learn more about our airport days on our What to Expect Page.  You can also fly as an "Unaccompanied Minor" and the airline will help you navigate the airports.

Will I need cold-weather clothing on this trip?

Temperatures in the mountains are usually moderate, but we also want you to be prepared for cooler evenings and mornings around camp.  A fleece, hat and gloves are recommended as part of your equipment list so you’ll be comfortable in any weather.  For more information about packing, please check your equipment list at your Log In Page.

What a GREAT place to send your kid! My son had an absolute ball and could not quit talking about the great people and how much he learned. He was ready to set out again almost as soon as he got home!

It was absolutely wonderful! With Adventure Treks, he met new friends, tried tons of new things and for the first time, did it all on his own.

“I expected this trip to be like any other camp.  I expected to eat bad food, hike and go to bed.  It was NOTHING like that.  This was sooo much more than just a camp.  It was a life changing experience.”

Patrick’s experience was wonderful and better than we expected. He quickly made friends with children from around the world and they still keep in touch. The counselors were very professional and had an obvious love and respect for the outdoors. We loved how adventure treks emphasize love of community as well as nature. He returned from this camp a more confident and mature young man. He can't wait for his next adventure in 2010 we thank u very much

It was a great experience and a departure from a traditional camp experience. It was more interactive and more emphasis was placed on developing character skills through the various activities.
