Leadership Summit

Get ready to further your outdoor skills and bridge the gap between being a student and becoming an instructor.  We will provide a basic foundation for planning and leading outdoor activities; you will have true leadership responsibility for your trip!  Lesson plans include outdoor leadership, group facilitation, wilderness ethics, environmental education, and plenty of team building games!  We keep the itinerary flexible to give you maximum input in the direction of your trip.
*You must have previous Adventure Treks experience and permission of the Director to join these trips.  After January 15th, applications of students new to Adventure Treks will be considered.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certification

Topics during this 4-day course include assessment, treatment, evacuation, and most importantly, prevention.  You’ll love the practical applications and medical scenarios (and fake wounds) that bring “real” situations to life.  Earning your WAFA gives you the standard entry-level medical training needed to work at most camps, colleges, and guide services.

Whitewater Raft the White Salmon River and 10-foot Husum Falls

This Wild and Scenic River follows a cliff-lined canyon carved from ancient lava flows and fed by the snow melting from Mount Adams.  The rapids, especially the 10 foot Husum falls, are non-stop!

3-Day Summit of Mt. Adams

Spend three days on this snow-covered volcano.  You will gain experience traveling and camping on snow, using your ice axe and crampons, and understanding mountaineering safety.

Skill-building Backpack in the Goat Rocks Wilderness

Refresh your outdoor skills and lay the framework for leadership in our favorite backpacking area (also featured in Twilight).  Hike among alpine lakes and wildflowers.   Summit Mount Snowy to see Mount Adams in one direction and Mount Rainier in the other.  Share leadership responsibilities with your group as your instructors prepare you to take complete ownership of your adventure.

Student-led Backpack in North Cascades National Park

Spend five days hiking through the rugged terrain of the majestic Cascades.  You will have instructor input, but the responsibility for leading an incredible backpack is up to you!

5-day Summit of Mount Olympus

Begin in a rainforest and hike 20 miles into our remote mountain base camp.  Wake up early on summit day to reach the top of the incredible, rewarding 7,980-foot Mount Olympus.  Glissade down for high speed fun.  This glaciated journey is the capstone of your Adventure Treks experience.

We reserve the right to alter the itinerary prior to and throughout the trip as we constantly improve the Adventure Treks experience.   Itineraries may change due to: Severe weather, student ability, motivation and conditioning, high or low rivers, high or low snow pack, unpredictable natural disasters and acts of God, vehicle breakdowns, road closures, volcanic activity, forest fires, illness, ever changing permit regulations, any potential threat to safety; even a brilliant idea from an instructor or student. 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5

My names Sierra, and Peak Leadership (with many of the same components as Leadership Summit) was my 5th and final trip that I completed this past summer of 2010. Every summer with Adventure Treks just got better and better and better, and this trip as my 5th was of corse the best of them all. The Wilderness Advanced first Aid corse was fun, with lively instructors and real applications of the knowledge. It is such a valuable certification to have, whether you want to hike in the future or not! Also, the backpacks are all top notch. The Mt. Olympus climb was one of my favorite summits, and was unique in that it takes 2 days to get out to the mountian itsself, so its a backpack and a summit combined. I highly, highly, highly recomend this trip... you learn so many great wilderness skills and get to really take a leader position in your group!
