Adventure Treks versus NOLS and Outward Bound
NOLS and Outward Bound are both excellent programs. We highly recommend NOLS and Outward Bound for adults, college students, and those seeking a very specific skill focus. Adventure Treks is better suited for teenagers and for people searching for a more personal program that will get to know your child and family.
Simply put, we focus on having fun while building friendships (and we eat great food!).
- Adventure Treks emphasizes fun because we want our students to have successful first experiences. Making great friends is also an important part of Adventure Treks.
- Adventure Treks makes sure there is plenty of great food available because we understand the importance of enjoying meals together.
- Adventure Treks is a small, personal company. We provide personal attention to every student and family.
- Adventure Treks screens participants carefully to ensure an excellent peer group.
- Adventure Treks helps students grow, strengthen leadership skills, improve life skills for 21st century success (collaboration, communciation, and critical thinking), improve confidence and discover their best selves, Research by the University of NH reports stellar gains by our students.
- Adventure Treks has a 60% student return rate over the last 10 years. This is four times higher than NOLS’s return rate and five times higher than Outward Bound’s return rate.
- Adventure Treks does not offer extended solo experiences. Students learn leadership, community-building, and outdoor skills in small groups, never alone.
- Adventure Treks is the only program that features 6 instructors on a trip with a 1:4 or better ratio. This assures great role models for every student. Most other companies only offer two - three instructors per trip.
“When I first read the Adventure Treks brochure and imagined myself going on five-day backpacks, summitting mountains, and scaling rock faces, I thought ‘no way.’ But the best decision of my life so far was to sign up for the trip because it changed me as a person. It will definitely be the best summer of your life.”
