Amanda Fox

Director

Amanda is a North Carolina native; after graduating from App State, she moved to Boulder, CO, to be an editor for Climbing and SNEWS magazines; she also wrote for the Outdoor Retailer Daily at the outdoor industry’s namesake twice-yearly trade show. Later, she moved on to work for a marketing agency and gained a certificate teaching Bikram yoga. Her passion for teaching, communications, and being in the outdoors collided when she joined Adventure Treks in 2014. In her free time, Amanda can be found trail running, mountain biking, and cycling in the beautiful western NC mountains. She also serves as on the non-profit volunteer board for the Friends of DuPont Forest.

  • Education: Appalachian State University, bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Summitting Mt. Rainier in 2011; our team started as a group of 12 and slowly whittled down to three of us who stood at the summit register. I was so excited to summit that I ran across the crater lake in my crampons. Summiting Mt. St. Helens with AT students has been pretty memorable, too. Or mountain biking in Italy.
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Mountain biking in Italy, specifically in the Dolomites. It’s possibly the most beautiful place in the world.
  • Favorite hobbies: Running, cycling, mountain biking, reading, taking my dogs everywhere.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? Getting to see so many communities across the board at AT—especially the growth from day one to the last evening, when no one wants to leave their new best friends.
