Harper

Harper hails from Hendersonville, NC, and is a former Adventure Treks student, having completed five trips to California, British Columbia, Alaska, and the Pacific Northwest. Most recently, she spent a few years living in Idaho and Chile working for a semester school for high school students. There, she was the community and experiential advisor, supporting the residential life needs of students and leading week-long backpacking trips. Prior to that, Harper spent a summer at Camp Glen Arden in North Carolina as a program assistant. She worked at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, MT; as an intern for the Walking Classroom in Chapel Hill; and as a counselor for Camp Pinnacle in Hendersonville.

  • Education: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, bachelor’s degree in media and journalism
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder
  • Proudest outdoor achievement: Doing the W trek in Chile! I planned the trip with one of my friends (another former AT student), and we ended up running into lots of insane weather but it was so, so worth it!
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Seeing the Owyhee Canyonlands in Oregon—it is this incredible place that looks just like Zion, but it’s such a hidden gem we were the only people around for miles. I got to witness the most incredible sunsets and sunrises I’ve ever seen.
  • What are you most about excited for the summer? I’m excited to spend time in the Tetons and Yellowstone! I spent a whole summer living super close in Big Sky, but I haven’t had the opportunity to spend much time in the parks until now. I’m also excited to get back into the AT community! I had the best five years as a student and my AT friends are still some of my closest friends today, and I’m so, so excited to be a part of that for my students.
