Instructor, California Adventure 1 & California Challenge 2

Liz returns to Adventure Treks for her third season as an instructor. Originally from Connecticut, Liz most recently worked for Wildland Trekking, leading backpacking trips in Utah and the Pacific Northwest trip; this winter, she was a ski instructor in Big Sky, MT. She’s also worked as the expeditions coordinator for Coastal Expeditions and guides multi-day sea kayaking and hiking trips through the Lowcountry near Charleston, SC. Before that, she was volunteered with AmeriCorps, where she was trained in conflict management, facilitated garden reconstruction projects, and led summer enrichment programs for children. Additionally, she’s volunteered as an assistant teacher for the Seeds of Change garden club, helping build greenhouses at an elementary school and teaching students about sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship practices.

  • Education: Sewanee: The University of the South, bachelor’s degree in international global studies
  • Medical and outdoor certifications: Wilderness first responder, ACA level 1 sea kayaking, Leave No Trace master educator, ACA swiftwater rescue
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Watching the sunset with students on the very first night of a backpack in the North Cascades.
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: Hiking 300 miles of the El Camino de Santiago in northern Spain!
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Iceland
  • Favorite hobbies: I love kayaking, live music, snapping cool pictures of wildlife, and any activity that gets me out into fresh air!
  • What do you hope to learn this summer? I am excited to learn more about myself this summer and grow alongside the students.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? I’m most excited about being back with the students and instructors that make AT so great!
