Nick

Originally from Woodinville, WA, Nick still resides in the Pacific Northwest. His outdoor career began in Vermont, where he was a conservation crew leader working on trails and watershed restoration with the U.S. Forest Service. He then joined the youth development field, working as a wilderness therapy field instructor in Utah where he led hiking trips and other programs for students. Then, he headed to Idaho and Oregon to be part of an AmeriCorps, again as a conservation crew leader. After high school, Nick volunteered with Portland Public Schools, where he worked with teachers to tutor students and create lesson plans. Nick joins Adventure Treks for his first season as an instructor.

  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder, Leave No Trace trainer
  • Favorite outdoor memory: My favorite outdoor memory is a three-week solo stint on Vermont’s Long Trail one cold October. I got snowed out before completing the trail, but I was able to do some really good leaf-peeping. I also enjoyed doing the Iron Cap traverse in Snoqualmie National Forest with my sister, and my week-long solo on the Washington Coast.
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: I think my greatest outdoor accomplishment is having guided others in the wilderness. I’m really
proud of myself for helping someone build the skills to go backpacking on their own or be inspired to become an outdoor leader. Outdoor knowledge is a wonderful gift to give.
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Vermont has to be one of the coolest places I have traveled to, mostly because of the experiences and friendships I made when I lived there. I worked on farms and trails and felt a strong sense of community while living close to nature.
  • Favorite hobbies: My biggest passion is backpacking and bicycle touring. I also enjoy woodworking, playing the guitar, making visual art, and learning about native plants.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? I’m excited to get familiar with the Adventure Treks program, and I’m looking forward to being immersed in the outdoor education environment. It’s an honor to help facilitate amazing wilderness adventures for others. Campfire reflections, long drives in the van, group dinners, trail conversations, and shared unexpected nature moments are among specific things I’m excited for.
