Idaho Adventure Activities

Backpack in Payette National Forest

Idaho’s Payette National Forest awaits. Home to incredible biodiversity, you’ll make incredibly close friendships while hiking for four days through conifer forests and fields of wildflowers. Deer, elk, moose, and mountain sheep and goats roam the halls of this beautiful national forest, and you may even see a bald eagle soaring overhead. From the deep canyons to craggy peaks rising to 9,500 feet, you’ll soon understand why this dramatic landscape is the centerpiece of Idaho’s outdoor recreation.

Whitewater raft the Salmon River

After four days on the magnificent Salmon River, you’ll understand why people from all over the world dream of rafting this river. Students will learn how to navigate downriver as a team and tackle exciting rapids, with raft splash wars and swimming holes awaiting in the calmer sections of water. Camp under the stars on the river at night, and enjoy the absolutely pristine wilderness of this beautiful area.

Summit hike in Payette National Forest

Boulder Mountain sits at about 8,400 feet, surrounded by wildflowers and its namesake alpine lake. This rocky summit allows for long-range views of other peaks like Buckhorn Mountain, Twin Peaks, and Rapid. If you keep your eyes peeled, you may see a black bear in the distance!

Mountain bike on Brundage Mountain

Brundage Mountain pulls double duty: a ski resort in the winter, and a mountain bike haven in the summer! With 20+ miles of trails that are perfect for beginner to advanced riders (and everyone in between), Brundage’s rolling terrain offers plenty of thrills and scenic views of Payette National Forest.

Rock climb in McCall

It’s time to lace up your climbing shoes and tie in for rock climbing! Idaho’s beautiful granite domes can rise over 1,200 feet in height, and the state is known for its high-quality, famous rock climbing routes. We’ll teach you everything you need to know, from technique to advanced knots to route-finding, and you’ll surprise yourself at how quickly you’ll progress!

Whitewater kayak the Payette River

Trade your bike and climbing shoes for a paddle and whitewater kayak! During two days on the world-famous Payette River, you’ll practice basic paddling strokes and safety techniques on flat water before progressing to gentle class I and II rapids on the river. No experience? No problem! The Payette River is perfect for people of all levels.
