What are the accommodations?
Car camping or tent camping in a field. Be prepared for Washington’s notoriously variable spring weather (it may be cool and rainy or hot and sunny—or we may get both!). There is a small but well-stocked grocery store about 10 minutes away, and larger grocery stores about 30 minutes away.
Facilities include an outdoor kitchen (with a refrigerator and portable gas stoves)*, multiple hand-washing stations, portable toilets, and shower tents with hot water. Laundry is not available.
*The outdoor kitchen is not available during the June WFR. Please bring all items you’ll need to cook and store food.
Please remember your personal toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) and a camp towel. As you will be in close quarters with each other throughout the course and performing hands-on scenarios, plan to practice good personal hygiene (in addition to frequent hand-washing).
You’ll have cell reception and access to WiFi, and we’ll provide a central charging station for your phone and external charger.
This is a closed-campus course; outside guests (those not participating in the WFR courses) are not allowed on property.
How do I get there?
Drivers are welcome to arrive the evening before—please arrive with everything you need. The address is 178 Dowling Rd, Toledo, WA 98591.
If you’re planning to fly:
- May WFR & recert: Plan to arrive at the Portland, OR (PDX), airport the day before the course by 2 pm; we will provide a shuttle from PDX and stop at the grocery store prior to arriving at basecamp.
- June WFR: You can arrive the evening before the course, or the morning the course starts—but be ready to start class by 8 am. There are no shuttles provided for the June course.
Adventure Treks will not provide transportation or vehicles during either course, or between courses and the start of the summer. Please plan any transportation you might need during these times in advance.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring all personal clothing and items you’ll need for your course, including your camping supplies and food. We are about 10 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and it’s best to come prepared with most of the food you’ll need for your course as the days can be long. Our basecamp can get muddy in rainy weather, so consider bringing rain boots for added comfort.
You’ll also need specific items for your course, including rain jacket and pants, hiking boots/shoes, non-cotton clothing, wristwatch, headlamp, notebook and writing utensils. A packing list will be provided upon registration.
How do I register?
We will provide registration details later this fall. We can accept payment via check; a $250 deposit must accompany your registration for the full WFR course and a $75 deposit for the recert. Full payment will be due prior to arrival to your course.
