How do I get there and when do I need to be there?

Our basecamp is located in Toledo, WA—about one hour, 40 minutes south of Seattle and one hour, 15 minutes north of Portland. Courses will start at 8 am sharp on the start date; please be on time. Google Maps (and other mapping software) should bring you right to 178 Dowling Road, Toledo, WA, 98591.

If driving, you’re welcome to arrive the evening before to set up camp and get settled.

If flying, please arrive at the Portland, OR (PDX), airport on May 18 no later than 2 p.m. We will provide a shuttle from PDX; plan to meet us in baggage claim. Shuttle details will be provided before your arrival. If driving, we encourage you to arrive to basecamp the evening of May 18, or by 7 a.m. on May 19 to ensure you have time to set up prior to class.

We will not be able to provide a shuttle from PDX for the June 30 course.

WFR recert

What are the accommodations?

Car camping or tent camping in a field. If taking the May WFR, be prepared for Washington’s notoriously variable spring weather (it may be cool and rainy or hot and sunny—or we may get both!). In June/July, it will likely be warm (possibly bordering on hot) and sunny.

Facilities include an outdoor kitchen* (with a refrigerator and portable gas stoves), multiple hand-washing stations, portable toilets, and shower tents with hot water. Laundry is not be available.

Please remember your personal toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) and a camp towel. As you will be in close quarters with each other throughout the course and performing hands-on scenarios, plan to practice good personal hygiene (in addition to frequent hand-washing).

You’ll have cell reception and access to WiFi, and we’ll provide a central charging station for your phone and external charger.

*Please note that the outdoor kitchen will not be available for the June/July WFR.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring all personal clothing and items you’ll need for your course, including your camping supplies and food. We are about 10 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and it’s best to come prepared with most of the food you’ll need for your course as the days can be long. Our basecamp can get muddy in rainy weather, so consider bringing rain boots for added comfort.

You’ll also need specific items for your course, including rain jacket and pants, hiking boots/shoes, non-cotton clothing, wristwatch, headlamp, notebook and writing utensils (full packing list available soon).

How do I register?

Please click here to register for your course, or email Rachel O’Neil. We can accept payment via check; a $250 deposit must accompany your registration for the full WFR course and a $75 deposit for the recert. Full payment will be due prior to arrival to your course.
