What are the accommodations and amenities?
Car camping or tent camping in a field. Be prepared for Washington’s notoriously variable weather for the May course (it may be cool and rainy or hot and sunny—or we may get it all!). There is a small but well-stocked grocery store about 10 minutes away, and larger grocery stores about 30 minutes away.
Facilities include an outdoor kitchen (with a refrigerator and portable gas stoves)*, multiple hand-washing stations, portable toilets, and showers with hot water. Laundry is not available, and the nearest laundromat is about 20 minutes away; please plan ahead.
Please remember your personal toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) and a camp towel. As you will be in close quarters with each other throughout the course and performing hands-on scenarios, plan to practice good personal hygiene (in addition to frequent hand-washing).
You’ll have cell reception and access to WiFi, and we provide a central charging station for your phone and external charger.
This is a closed-campus course; outside guests (those not participating in the WFR courses) are not allowed on property.
How do I get there?
Drivers are welcome to arrive the evening before—please arrive with everything you need. The address is 178 Dowling Rd, Toledo, WA 98591.
If you’re planning to fly:
- WFR: Pease arrive at the Portland, OR (PDX), airport on May 22 no later than 2 pm. We will provide a shuttle from PDX and stop at the grocery store prior to arriving at basecamp.
- WFR recert: Please arrive at the Portland, OR (PDX), airport on June 1 no later than 2 pm. We will provide a shuttle from PDX and stop at the grocery store prior to arriving at basecamp.
Adventure Treks does not provide transportation or vehicles during either course, or between courses and the start of orientation/summer. Please plan ahead for any transportation you might need during these times in advance.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring all personal clothing and items you’ll need for your course, including your camping supplies and food. We are about 10 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and it’s best to come prepared with most of the food you’ll need for your course as the days can be long. Our basecamp can get muddy in rainy weather, so consider bringing rain boots for added comfort (especially in May).
You’ll also need specific items for your course, including a rain jacket and pants, hiking boots/shoes, non-cotton clothing, wristwatch, headlamp, notebook, and writing utensils. A packing list will be provided upon registration.
How do I register?
Register for your course here; please note that preference is given to returning and new Adventure Treks staff working with us for the summer.
We can accept payment via check or Venmo; a $250 deposit must accompany your registration for the full WFR course and a $75 deposit for the recert. Full payment is due 14 days prior to the course start date. For Venmo, please contact Dave at davemac@adventuretreks.com.
