Sarah

Instructor

A Salt Lake City, UT, native, Sarah is a social worker in her home state. She began her outdoor career as a counselor for several YMCA camps before transitioning to a program leader for Camp Kostopulos, a non-profit organization in Utah that provides recreational opportunities for kids and adults with special needs. She was the assistant expedition director for Green River Preserve in western North Carolina, training instructors to lead multi-day trips in the Outer Banks, Blue Ridge Mountains in the southeast, and San Juan Mountains in Colorado. Sarah has been a ski instructor at Big Sky Resort in Montana, and she also worked at a residential treatment center for teenagers.

Wilderness first responder; PSIA alpine level 1, children’s specialist, and adaptive

Favorite hobbies

Biking, canyoneering, skiing, pottery, jewelry-making, and slacklining!

Favorite outdoor achievement

A pack-rafting trip in southern Utah: It rained—and then snowed!— on our 10-mile hike out of a canyon on slick rock.

Favorite outdoor memory

I just got back from a yurt trip outside of Stanley, ID, with an amazing group of friends where we spent five days getting to ski some amazing terrain and make some incredible memories.

Anywhere in a high alpine environment!

What are you most excited to experience this summer?

I am so excited to work with teens, to be able to walk next to them as they grow in their outdoor pursuits. I love getting to spend time in an intentional community where the is a focus on supporting one another. I am also very excited to get to spend some time in the outdoors.
