The people I met on this trip truly exceeded my expectations. They helped me get through the hardest moments and enjoy the best moments even more. I have learned lifelong skills and values and gained memories and respect for things I’ve never experienced before. I have grown such an appreciation for nature’s beauty. – Rocco from CA

The friends that I made during this trip totally changed the outcome in a positive way. They were so much fun and so funny.

If you don’t try hard and try new things, you will never know what you are capable of!

– Guy from CA

The connections I make are the reason I come back to AT. Adventure Treks is really fun, and I highly recommend it. I’ve learned to appreciate every second of every day. – Griffin from CA

All of my old friends and new friends this year were so amazing. I enjoyed every moment with them, which made the trip one of the most memorable experiences of my life. – Hugo from CA

Adventure Treks is an outdoor education program that really encourages you to step out of your comfort zone—physically, mentally, and emotionally—while having the most fun. You get to do amazing things in the most beautiful places and meet really interesting people that you will never forget. – Greta from CA

Leadership Summit has helped me grow so much, both in hard outdoor skills like tying knots, and in softer skills like leading. AT has helped my confidence increase and shown me what I want to do with my life.

The community is amazing; it made AT better than any other camps I’ve done because it was very welcoming and open.

The experience could only have been better if it was longer (I didn’t want to leave). – Ella from CA

I have an amazing group of friends that I’ve known for three to four years from AT, and that is the biggest reason that I have so much fun and come back every year. It’s been the best four years of my life! – Jack from CA

AT is an amazing experience where you learn to love the outdoors even more and make some of the best friends you could possibly have. All the girls in my group became friends really fast. It made the trip even more fun because I had people to have fun with me. I learned to enjoy the little things in life and fun have even when the situation isn’t ideal. – Sonia from CA

This trip is not about the activities or the hikes. It’s about the people who do it with you. The friends, the instructors—they are the people who bring this trip to its full potential. – Joey from CA

My son just returned from a 13-day Adventure Treks experience, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the impact it has had on him. Before leaving, he was hesitant and unsure about spending that much time away from home, but from the moment he came back, I could see how transformative the experience truly was.

He came home more confident, more focused on achieving his goals, and with a renewed sense of independence. He’s become more vocal, more conversational, and carries himself with a new level of self-assurance. Beyond the outdoor adventures and challenges, what stood out most to me was how he grew as a person—learning teamwork, resilience, and how to push through discomfort to discover joy on the other side.

What surprised me most was that the trip he initially was unsure of turned out to be one of the best experiences of his life. He enjoyed himself so much that he’s already asking to go back next year. To me, that says everything about the care, planning, and leadership that Adventure Treks provides.

Prior to the trip, they answered every question oh so patiently and were very transparent about everything we should expect and prepare for. Their communication was top-notch throughout.

I’m so grateful to Amanda and the team as well as the camp instructors for creating a safe, encouraging, and fun environment where our son could grow, connect, and discover more about himself. Adventure Treks didn’t just give him an unforgettable adventure—it gave him confidence, skills, and friendships that will last far beyond the trip.

Thank you, Adventure Treks! – Shabbir Suterwala, Stevenson Ranch, CA

Kat has really enjoyed every trip and has come home with new confidence about her own skills every year—both backcountry and relational—and built long-term, “ride or die” friendships that go well beyond the trips. – Jen Sokolove, Oakland, CA

It is definitely a step up from a summer camp (limited comforts), but it isn’t as hardcore as some outfits. They are very proactive in selecting the groups and try to create teams that can all gel together for two weeks or more. The kids soon find out they need to work together and share tasks. They leave their known group of friends and learn from other kids from different parts of the country and the world. – Connie Marcucci, Los Angeles, CA

The experience allowed our son to push himself out of his comfort zone. Not knowing anyone when he arrived, he connecting with others in his group and completed many physical challenges that I think even surprised him that he was able to do. He gained a lot of confidence in his ability to dig deeper than he thought he could and succeed. – Mallary Walker, Mill Valley, CA

Joey’s Adventure Treks experience was truly transformative. As a shy and introverted teen who often doesn’t get the opportunity to show leadership but yearns for challenges that push him out of his comfort zone, Adventure Treks was the perfect fit for him. From the moment we enrolled, the exceptional communication and support from the Adventure Treks team reassured us that Joey was in good hands. Despite his initial nervousness and anxiety about keeping up with his group or lacking the strength and endurance for the activities, Joey embraced the adventure wholeheartedly.

The highly skilled instructors provided a safe, fun, and nurturing environment, enabling Joey to try new things and be challenged in ways he hadn’t anticipated. They brought a sense of playfulness and joy to every activity, which made Joey feel like he could always succeed.

He formed deep connections with his peers and returned home with newfound confidence, self-sufficiency, and optimism—and asking to do it again! The program’s focus on resilience, leadership, and community fostered remarkable personal growth. Joey’s experience at Adventure Treks exceeded our expectations in every way, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to any parent looking for a life-changing experience for their child. – Kim Oliff, Hillsborough, CA

From the very beginning, when my husband and I started looking into various trips for our boys, we were very impressed with everyone that we talked with at Adventure Treks. In particular, the directors, Dave and Amanda, couldn’t have been nicer and more informative and knowledgeable about the trips. Fast forward to post-trip, I am extremely pleased and actually in awe of all of the varied physical challenges, fun games, and true connections without electronics that both of my sons experienced on the trip. The communication from top to bottom has been just wonderful.

There are several things that I think they learned on the trip. I think they learned that they didn’t need their phones as much as they once thought. I also think that they learned to be themselves and be “free” of any peer expectation and felt accepted. I hope that in some small way this attitude of acceptance can translate to the real world (high school and middle school).

Almost as soon as we greeted the kids at the airport on closing day, they both said, “We want to go back!” We never in a million years thought that our nervous and hesitant boys would have had this remark post-trip.

Our feelings weren’t hurt, but rather our hearts were so full knowing that they truly enjoyed themselves and made new connections with their peers, leaders, and outdoor adventures. They are already thinking about the next trip! I couldn’t recommend this company enough. I am truly so grateful for the experience that they provided for my sons. – Amy Morosoff, San Clemente, CA

AT is an extremely thoughtful, well-run, organized outdoor program for kids that uses wilderness skills to focus on personal growth, group skills, and life lessons. Lucy came away with a greater love and respect for the outdoors, a belief in her own strength as a friend, and a sense of community that she will carry with her. – Daisley Kramer, San Anselmo, CA

Adventure Treks has incredible itineraries in incredible locations. It’s great way for kids to become even more independent in a safe space with like-minded kids from around the country. And a great way to get off the screens and explore some fabulous scenery. My son continues to develop into a young adult! He has more indepedendence, more awareness of others, is more talkative! – Zoher Karu, Los Gatos, CA

If you’ve found the Adventure Treks website, then you or your kid are looking for something different this summer. Honestly, don’t hesitate—just do it, as the saying goes.

There are not many experiences with the power to change your perspective and rewire your brain like extended time in the outdoors. The team at Adventure Treks really helped our son tap into a sense of wonderment and self-confidence that was lying below the surface. Outside of the obvious benefits of an intense exposure to the outdoors over that length of time, I think he really garnered improved confidence from experiencing the trip with a group of entirely new people. The communication before, during, and even after the trip was top-notch. The trip blogs and photo uploads were fantastic. – Jeff Marks, Fremont, CA

AT has been one of the most impactful experience of my daughter’s life. I just wish we learned about it much early as she was only able to participate for two years because she is now off to college. Every child should experience AT, and as many times as possible. It is difficult for the parents as you will only get to speak with them a couple times, but AT is excellent with sending out trip blogs (often written by the students) and posting photos. When you read the blogs and see the photos, you will notice a sparkle in your child’s eyes that wasn’t there before. This is because they have pushed themselves to do things they most likely didn’t think they were capable of, all while being surrounded by the most encouraging and authentic group of leaders and kids they have ever met. – Dorothy Ottolia, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Adventure Treks was the perfect experience for our son, who will enter high school next year. He made great connections with his instructors and fellow students, was surrounded by nature’s beauty every day, and came home a more confident and grounded young man. This was a wonderful experience for Renzo. He absolutely loved it! – Tina Stone, Novato, CA

My child had the time of her life! She had an opportunity to live and connect with peers in a supportive, social environment free from internet distractions.

She was challenged personally while being supported by these peers and her instructors daily. She came home feeling good about her accomplishments. – Stephanie Brodsky, Sacramento, CA

He has made great friends and gained life skills. It’s a great chance to see new places and be immersed in nature, and a good mix of roughing it, fun, and safety! – Amy Flanzer, Burlingame, CA

My son came home standing a little taller and more confident in himself. This type of trip is incredibly valuable for teens. My son learned a lot, developed more independence, and had an amazing time! Both my boys have gone with AT, and I’ve always been happy with the quality of the program and instructors. – Mary Katherine Patterson, Orinda, CA

Adventure Treks combines outdoor adventure, physical and mental challenges, new friends, camaraderie, teamwork, accomplishment, and personal growth all into one program. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for your child they will never forget. I believe the program provided an exceptional experience for my son in every respect, from student and instructor interactions, to communication with parents, to program organization, to the fun and challenging activities they engaged in.

Even instances where something didn’t go well for my son provided an important experience that teaches him how to handle challenges in life and how he should respond when he makes mistakes or others do something he disagrees with.

– Geoff Hamilton, San Diego, CA

Ceanne made new friends, went amazing places, and tried new activities. She loved rock climbing! She was so happy to have no social media around with other kids. It was incredibly well organized, inclusive, professional, and fun. – Barbara Kopicki, San Francisco, CA

Adventure Treks has been transformative for Charlie. It has helped him build self-confidence, independence and a deep love of the outdoors in a really loving, supportive community of friends and instructors—an important antidote to the typical technology-obsessed high-school experience, in other words. The friends he made will probably last a lifetime, and he’s grown so much by learning how to lead and work within a group. We came to Adventure Treks through a friend who couldn’t say enough about it, and we have been as enthusiastic in our recommendations. You guys do an incredible job. – Michael Oneal, Oakland, CA

Griffin raved about every single aspect of the trip.

He returned home energetic and engaged. We felt that communication, logistics, quality of instructors, etc. were all fantastic. – Ashley Reid, San Anselmo, CA

Josiah went in open and excited but apprehensive. He knew nobody on his trip or anybody who had ever been on an Adventure Treks trip. When I picked Josiah up from his trip, he was proud, calm, and inspired. He is a blessed kid who has been given wonderful opportunities, and Adventure Treks was one of his most favorite of all his life experiences. He made incredible friends, loved his instructors, had exciting experiences, and is negotiating daily regarding how to visit his friends in other cities. He said, “I loved it. One of the best communities I’ve ever been in.” Thank you, AT. – Sarah Weinberg, San Francisco, CA

An incredible experience, all four trips over consecutive summers, that built on each other in challenge, length of time, leadership skills, resilience, and, ultimately, confidence. The friendships gained by our son have endured. The inclusivity is bonding. The places visited and the journeys to reach them were astounding. Such beauty. Some of the best times of our son’s life were on Adventure Treks trips. – Anne Fiorito, Oakland, CA

Zaki came back from his AT trip full of stories. About the students, the instructors, and what he had experienced. He grew up during the trip—and he came back a little wiser, more self-confident, and with a great love for the outdoors and how it can clear one’s mind and ground someone. Zaki had an amazing experience. – Tanya Haider, Brooklyn, NY

Adventure Treks is a full-service travel company that allows the students to immerse in outdoor challenge and peer relationships in an amazingly warm and positive environment. The leadership of the company was so helpful in all stages of planning and logistics, ensuring us that the students would be guided with attention to safely and their wellbeing. Our daughter was hoping for a really physically challenging trip in a beautiful place where she could connect with like-minded peers who seek challenge and connection in nature and each other. It gave her the reset she needed, disconnecting from the pressures of high school and technology and remembering who she is and what’s important to her. She admired her trip leaders and guide who served as mentors and friends who brought the group together.

It was a an incredible trip, and we’re so grateful we found AT.

– Ashley Doyle, Summit, NJ

Michael liked Adventure Treks very much. This was Michael’s first experience away from home in the outdoors; he embraced it and had a lot of fun and made friends. The experience was memorable and will continue to be. Most valuable was him learning that he is able to do much more than he thought he could. Also, being part of a team and learning how to work together. The activities were amazing! Most importantly, the staff was very supportive and engaging. – Lissette Bryce, Wyckoff, NJ

Amazing! Grace had the opportunity to see a part of this country that she never would be able to. She lived outdoors for three weeks, navigating the woods for basic needs. She was able to experience so many cool things like summiting Mt. Shasta, rafting the American River, and living and working with other people, most of whom were strangers. Grace learned so much on this trip about herself. – Summer Burke, Scotch Plains, NJ

The AT program is a gem! My two children have done a total of four trips in past three years. AT continually has top-notch instructors, who genuinely care for your children. AT’s authenticity is unmatched, and its focus on safety is why it is the number one program. AT is giving kids an opportunity to dive into nature, experience socializing with no devices and discover confidence that can not happen at home. There is incredible and thoughtful planning that goes into each trip. As parents we appreciate the pictures and updates which are consistent and fun!

The effort given by the entire AT team exceeds expectations every year. It’s magic!

– Carey Macaleer, Brooklyn, NY

Jack had the most amazing experience with not only the things he did but with the people he met. Everything is so organized! The physical challenges are valuable but the relationships he formed are incredible. – Jamie Cappo, Brooklyn, NY

AT is a well-run, supportive, tech-free adventure with new challenges and friends. This is a great way to prepare for additional independence and to build confidence while having fun. – Jessica Munzel, Irvington, NY

We trust AT, and our children loved the adventure, backpacking, and other activities, but more important, they learned to connect with peers and become more confident and independent. They really enjoyed making connections and felt supported. Mel and Henry gained a deep appreciation and love for the wilderness that I could never give them by just hiking in NJ.

They said AT was life-changing and wish they could do it forever!

– Monica Cantor, Morganville, NJ

AT sets the bar for overnight experiences for our family. Every staff member at AT is incredibly caring, experienced, and so skilled at building community. The activities are seriously challenging and lead to a deep feeling of confidence that carries my son from summer to summer. My son came home feeling so confident and successful. AT was a super fun and exciting experience for me. I tested both my collaboration and teamwork skills, took on responsibilities, and learned to take better care of myself. – Eli from WA

Jaxon was nervous—not scared, but nervous—about group dynamics, not knowing anyone, and doing new things he hadn’t done before. But all of that was washed away by the instructors and the environment that AT requires of its participants. They are organized and provided us the tools to feel confident and prepared to send Jaxon away for almost 3 weeks in the wild—and they kept us updated throughout the whole time. He grew in all the ways I could have wanted and had a great time. He navigated interpersonal challenges with maturity and support. We have no concerns about him going again and are excited to pursue camps for the future for him. – Rachel Keeton, West Linn, OR

Adventure Treks has been a wonderful experience for our son over the past four summers. It has allowed him to get deep into nature and push himself in ways he’s always wanted but we couldn’t offer personally. We’ve seen a level of maturity, confidence, and groundedness that grows after each AT session. He’s made new friends from across the country and enjoyed interacting and learning from people with different worldviews. And while he’s testing the limits of his physical capacity, we have felt confident that AT is giving him the resources need to succeed and to know his limits.

It has been a HUGE influence in his life and he hopes to continue his participation in the coming years.

– Dena Shehab, Portland, OR

We were looking for an adventure activity for our son, but were uncertain about Outward Bound or NOLS at this point. We were very happy to find Adventure Treks with its focus on both outdoor adventure and social interactions (community-building). Our child is interested in so many outdoor adventures that as parents we aren’t active in (mountain climbing, bouldering, multi-day backpacking trips, to name a few). It was great to have Adventure Treks care for our child and guide him in all of the above and more. He loved it. Everyone was kind and supportive. Just great!!! – Ron Pernick, Portland, OR

This was a great opportunity for our son to stretch himself while spending time outdoors, which he really enjoys. We had enough information ahead of time to know what to expect, what to bring, and airport logistics. An instructor called us the week before and answered lingering questions. During the trip, Adventure Treks set the expectation that we wouldn’t get updates when they were in remote areas, which put me at ease. The mix of activities meant that my son could both do things he was familiar with (hiking, biking) and try new things (rafting, climbing) in a safe and supportive environment.

While tired, our son was beaming when we picked him up at the airport, and is already planning to come back next year. I do believe his experience helped increase his confidence and deepen his love for the outdoors.

– Laura Machado de Wright, Redmond, WA

Just go for it! These experiences are so positive and broadening and adventurous. Your child will come home beaming and full of great stories of great times in the outdoors.

I’d describe my son’s AT experience as broadening, adventurous, full of personal growth, fun, and invaluable. We have great enthusiasm and confidence in AT, and it and the instructors offered our son an amazing wildernesses experience, tons of fun, and more than I can even articulate! The organization was always professional and diligent with communication. The AT experience overall exceeded our expectations. – Sarah McGrath, Orofino, ID

The friendships with the students and the instructors drove the experiences home: doing amazing things and learning to be more independent and self-reliant in an atmosphere of support and caring. I love the program, the organization, the communication and the values of AT. And I love the fun my child had on the trip! And how he grew. – Phoebe Sade, Seattle, WA

Daire loves Adventure Treks and always wants to go back. He grows and learns so much about himself. I love watching it. It’s transformative and a rite of passage.

– Marika Reinke, Seattle, WA

North & South Carolina

I participated in the California Challenge and although it was only a month, it became one of the most important experiences in my life! Not only did I learn so many camping skills, I also experienced so many activities I never thought I would ever end up doing like mountain biking, mountain climbing, kayaking in rapids, and backpacking in the beautiful Californian backcountry! I met some of the most amazing people there, sharing laughs with people I never would have met otherwise, and after only a couple weeks I was so close with everyone. All of my dietary restrictions were accommodated by the people planning the trips, but also everyone who was with me, friends and instructors alike, took great care to make sure the trip was enjoyable and so fun. If I had the opportunity to return for more trips in the future, there is no doubt I’d come back! – Shreya from NC

My AT friends are such amazing people and made my experience what it was.

I have learned so much from them and value them immensely. AT is life-changing. The person you grow while on these trips is more responsible, more aware, and more free-spirited. AT fosters learning and finding yourself. – Paige from NC

My friends on my AT trip were by far the best friends I’ve ever made, and probably some of the best anywhere.

We all felt like a community instantly, and it made me so much more excited for everything we did. AT is an incredible experience that will change your whole attitude on life. Adventure Treks has taught me that making new friends is so much more enjoyable without phones. It also taught me leadership skills and how to be more independent. – Virginia from SC

This summer was my daughter’s 3rd Adventure Treks program. She started with a 13-day, the next summer was 20 days, and this past summer was 24. She’s already signed up for a 30-day program next summer.

I cannot overstate how much fun, adventure and growth my daughter experiences through these trips.

She pushes herself to meet new people and to try new outdoor skills. She has friendships that have lasted outside of the program, with the kids visiting each other in their home towns. The staff at AT seem to be incredibly fun while also technically skilled and attentive to safety. – Melissa Morrissey, Hendersonville, NC

AT is dialed! As executive director of an outdoor-based middle school that regularly takes children on extended whitewater paddling, climbing, and international trips, I am intimately familiar with the criteria required for safe programming of this nature. The staff are superb… experienced, safe, qualified, compassionate, fun, and serve as world-class role models. The thoughtful trip planning and attention to detail is evident in the itineraries. Most important, AT consistently reflects on their programming and continues to adapt and improve while preserving and focusing on what is most important: the development and growth of children in amazing settings with amazing people. – Will Yeiser, Asheville, NC

This is the kind of experience I wish every child could have—being outside without technology and learning to be responsible for oneself and for the well-being of the community, with the kind and patient support of instructors who are knowledgeable and fun-loving.

In Zev’s own words: “I learned that I can just be myself and that there are people out there who will like me for who I am.”

Since coming home, Zev is more willing to take responsibility for himself and for other things that need to be done in the house. He is better at self-regulation. He is more willing to help with household chores. He is more aware that he is part of a community (a family) and needs to pitch in. Zev had the time of his life. He made terrific friends, loved being outside and away from technology (which is saying something for a kid like Zev who is REALLY into tech), and just got a chance to have fun and be silly. – Janna Levin, Winston Salem, NC

Caroline loved the instructors and all the students. It was a great and safe experience and a very well organized trip. AT was just the right amount of intensity with a nice selection of outdoor activities. Great adventure, great messaging, and wonderful instructors who were excellent role models. The updates from the instructors and students were hilarious. Caroline was happy with the food! – Beth Hoos, Chapel Hill, NC

My daughter absolutely loved every moment of her trip. So much so that as soon as she entered the house we planned and booked her next summer with AT!

All the team of AT and instructors were very caring, resourceful, and prompt in communicating updates. They gave kids all the opportunities to connect with nature and experience the true outdoor adventure keeping the safety in mind. My daughter needed vegetarian meals, and she was well taken care of in every way. She enjoyed all her kayaking, biking, hiking, and sleeping under the stars. Testing her physical and emotional strengths and learning a lot which a home-bound, screen-scrolling life would never give. I am so grateful to you all! – Alka Bhardwaj, Cary, NC

Adventure Treks is a great opportunity for your child to learn so much about themselves, without the pressures of being connected and being watched by social media. They can just be a teenager and enjoy challenging themselves and sharing their experiences with other teens from around the country. All our children’s confidence has increased as well as their ability to adapt to change. Adventure Treks is an incredible organization focused on experiences, children’s best interests, and safety. Wonderful staff. Great communication. Good variety in trips. Well-balanced teams. – Mary Collins, Charlotte, NC

Zach came back full of stories of all the adventures he had. He really bonded with the others on the trip and was able to just be himself and talk openly. They all truly bonded together in their experiences!

The experience is unbeatable.

– Carrie Powers, Harrisburg, NC

Ames enjoyed the variety of activities and loved the different locations within Yellowstone and the Tetons. He also really enjoyed the others in his group; everyone had a great attitude and was invested in the experience. It was a great experience for Ames, and as parents we were well informed throughout the process. The entire process was top-notch. Great communication. – Emery Bettis, Winston Salem, NC

The Peru trip was amazing, and she really enjoyed the addition of the cultural experiences to the outdoor experiences. It was fun, challenging, sometimes uncomfortable, and absolutely something she’ll never forget. The boost to her confidence is very noticeable and she loved the other students, the AT instructors, and the Peruvian guides. She did say the food may have ruined her for other AT trips—it was delicious! – Meredith Calhoun, Hendersonville, NC

Adventure Treks is the absolute best outdoor program, where a kid can learn, be challenged, grow as a community member, and even become a leader. I know the program well; the organization and programming are great but most of all the instructors are the best! – Adrian Bardon, Winston-Salem, NC

The kids realize they possess strength and power that in everyday life isn’t always embraced or allowed to shine. The AT experience allows those superpowers to come to the forefront.

Our son was always independent, but I think he appreciates all we do and all the comforts he has more after this trip. This is our second year with AT, and I can tell you that the second time for us (given our child’s growth over the year) was so amazing to see how much more he got from this experience. – Sean Hager, Wilmington, NC

Coen is an introverted classic teen who, if given the option, might take the easy way out. However, AT has sparked in him a new love for outdoor adventure, travel, meeting new people. It has broadened his horizons in ways he didn’t expect, and he’s proud of the physical and intellectual challenges AT has helped him conquer. Exposure to sights, sounds, people and skills that we cannot get in NC. And as a parent presenting them to my son, these would not have the same impact on my teen’s willingness to accept new adventures the way AT brings it to him. – Lauren Figge, Pittsboro, NC

AT was the highlight of our daughter’s year since her first trip in 2021. What better way to spend a part of summer than in nature, with other teenagers, in the capable hands of amazing trip leaders and guides?

It was a huge financial investment for us, and not taken lightly, but it was worth every penny for the sense of connection and belonging to the group, and reverence for the natural world, that was fostered and sustained through AT adventures. Education at its best. You really know teenagers. While my husband and I value the wilderness experiences and calculated risks of the adventures, we have been so impressed at the organization and planning (all the behind the scenes work) that goes into the programs. You are creating life-changing and life-shaping experiences, grounded in the restorative power of the natural world. – Catriona Moore, Durham, NC

AT has well-coordinated and planned activities set against gorgeous scenery where teens are able to build relationships, practice responsibility, and strengthen resilience in a device-free space. It’s a great combination of physical challenge, social growth, and resilience-building. – Amy King, Chapel Hill, NC

Adventure Treks provides an unforgettable experience that kids today cannot get in their home environment. Socially, they interact without electronics, so they resort to “old-fashioned” entertainment: talking, singing, telling stories, playing games, and reading. Physically, they are challenged beyond what they think they can do, sometimes hiking 10 miles in one day. Environmentally, they are stripped to the bare minimum, sometimes resulting in sleeping under the stars, which was a favorite with my daughter. They learn to become resilient and independent in a short period of time, resulting in making strong bonds with their group members.

This is truly a unique experience for teenagers in today’s world, and one that I think allows them to grow in unexpected ways.

Amazing experience, very well organized, good instructor to student ratio, and the safety of the students comes first. – Michelle Maynard, Chapel Hill, NC

AT is a great program that helps teens take calculated risks and pushes them out of their comfort zone. This experience helps them develop confidence in themselves that they can do hard things when obstacles arise in the future. This is the fifth trip that my children have taken through AT, and we have had many positive experiences. – Julie Morris, Durham, NC

We absolutely love everything about AT! Amanda and Dmac are amazing, the attention to detail and the quality of instructors and programming is the best! Our son really loved the group on his trip and felt that it was a fun, diverse and supportive group. He really loved his instructors and I think that they had a large impact on how much he loved his trip. I can’t think of anything that y’all could do any better! – Emilie Samet, Greensboro, NC

Dash had a great time getting to know his instructors and peers. He got out of his comfort zone, and even participated in an activity he already knew he didn’t like. He had a great time and learned a lot! Communication was great. We already have a level of comfort with the AT community, so we didn’t need a ton of communication. We got just what we needed before the trip. During the trip, Amanda was great in helping me out when I realized I wouldn’t be available on phone call day! – Sarah Wessell, Chapel Hill, NC

AT went beyond our expectations in the areas of safety/expertise of the instructors, organization, experiences, and friendships our child had.

Overall, it was a huge growth and learning challenge for our daughter. She says that her group are all still close and open with one another. Everyone helped, lead, and remained supportive throughout the trip. Amanda was very responsive and caring. Kyle was incredible—he is warm, caring, reliable, and I felt he had the kids’ best interest and safety in mind at all times. – Marney Whitney, Chapel Hill, NC

Two of my daughters participated in different California Challenge trips separately over the last two years. We had hoped for both of them that they would not only have fun, memorable experiences, but also ones which would promote a sense of confidence and independence. Adventure Treks delivered much more than we had hoped for. The activities and environment did in fact create many fun and rewarding challenges. But it was the caring instructors and the thought that was put into the trip which created meaningful group experiences which allowed my daughters to grow as people. They have maintained many of their friendships from their trips and have been eager to return for more Adventure Treks experiences. – Robb Ellis, Simpsonville, SC

These trips allow kids to experience once-in-a-lifetime, action-packed adventures and are molded to foster positive fun relationships with new friends from across the United States. Hannah had a wonderful experience. – Jenna Jongquist, Clover, SC

Maryland & Washington, DC

AT is such an amazing way to get out of your comfort zone while having a great support system.

I love the friends I made, the instructors support, the challenges faced, and all the experiences gained. – Fiona from MD

Adventure Treks taught me the power of community and how capable I am when facing challenges. I have grown so much as a person because of my AT trips. – Ashley from MD

I made really close friends at AT. I saw them more as siblings than friends. I grew as close to them in two weeks as I have with others over years. Adventure Treks taught me how to be more confident, how to be a better friend and better person, and how to live life more simply. – Tenley from MD

I love how high energy and passionate each of the instructors are. They encouraged me and every other trip member to push through challenges and enjoy every moment along the way. Adventure Treks is the type of community people should wish for. The close-knit bonds of friendship and ability to experience the best of nature, is a true pleasure to have.

AT is the highlight of my year!

– Naomi from MD

Adventure Treks is the most mentally challenging, but most rewarding, experience ever. – Dominic from MD

Adventure Treks is an incredibly special community that gives students a space to be unapologetically themselves while enjoying all the outdoors has to offer. My friends have been integral to my AT experience, and community is the reason I keep returning. They make every activity better and provide a sense of warmth and familiarity. – Liz from MD

This program brings out the best side of you and increases your self-confidence so much. – Sadie from MD

Adventure Treks will be the best experience of your life—hands-down.

– Preston from MD

My friends supported me through challenges and made me laugh and smile so much; they truly made the experience the best it could be. AT does such a great job of giving you the opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone and have so much fun with amazing people while doing it. – Ana Paula from MD

AT has created such an amazing community for me with the best instructors. I did the coolest things during my two weeks! – Ashley from MD

My friends have shaped my AT experiences. I don’t think this year’s Alaska trip could have been better than it already was. AT has taught me how to live in the moment and make friends with people I have just met. – Simeon from Washington, DC

My friends made everything better; they brought the energy and positive attitude along with me. Our instructors trusted us to know what to do and laughed alongside us. They were clearly just as excited and hyped as us, which I loved.

The opportunity to experience a community like this is rare, and I’m so glad I pushed myself to try something new and meet new people from all over. I truly have grown as a person and will carry AT with me.

– Adele from Washington, DC

Shoshana loved every aspect of her trip. She enjoyed new activities, felt a strong sense of community and support, and had a fantastic time. – Marni Hall, Silver Spring, MD

Our kids’ experiences have been great. We know there are other programs out there, but the AT team—Amanda and Dmac and the trip leaders—have always been great. Communication is excellent both before, during and after the trips. We trust our kids being with AT. – Fran Thorpe, Bethesda, MD

AT was so responsive leading up to the trip with every single email and phone call I made. We felt completely comfortable in AT’s expertise. Very professional and thorough communication always. Packing list and all the travel info were greatly appreciated. Instructions on preparing physically and all other manner of prep were so helpful.

Initially I was overwhelmed with the thought of planning flights and getting clothing together, but AT was very generous with their time over the phone giving me advice.

I loved that fun was emphasized at the end of the school year. AT gets it. AT clearly states the rules, where they stand on them, and they have a backbone about enforcement. That’s so reassuring.

Each personalized effort made such an impact on our comfort level. We felt so special and that AT was really looking out for Dominic. We knew we weren’t just a number.

– Gemma Medile, Severna Park, MD

Adventure Treks is a well-run, safe, and fun program that allows teenagers to stretch their skills, bodies, and minds in a new and beautiful location, and its instructors are more highly trained and better paid than the other programs. Great communication and planning, and it sounds like the instructors were excellent. – Erica Brown, Chevy Chase, MD

I chose Adventure Treks specifically because of Amanda’s availability and responsibility to talk me through all of my questions, address all of my concerns with thoughtful and believable answers—it was my ability to have direct and frequent conversations with ownership that allowed me to place my trust in AT. Miezi had a holistic experience that allowed her to safely challenge herself mentally and physically. She spoke mostly of the strong friendships she forged and camaraderie among her peers. She was not really interested in going on this trip—but stepped off the plane back home with smiles and a positive attitude. It was the perfect mix of challenge and fun. For a teen who can’t wake before 10am, I was thrilled to hear about daily adventures that required them to wake early for mountain summits and other activities. She did it! – Christine Cafasso, Washington, DC

We felt very comfortable sending Leo off on this new adventure. It was well organized and planned. I loved that he did a variety of activities but seemed to do everything twice, so the challenges built on each other. Leo gained so much confidence in himself that he accomplished something he has wanted to do for a long time (climb a very tall mountain). He seems more comfortable with living in nature and not having lots of modern convieinces, like a fridge. He also was proud of himself for going on his own and meeting new friends. He loved seeing and learning about a part of the country he has never been before and has not stopped talking about the whole experience. – Courtney Moseman, Bethesda, MD

Emerson had an amazing experience! She made lasting friendships, proved to herself she can take on a challenge and succeed, and she learned more outdoor living skills. Being device-free was refreshing and healthy and gave her a much needed break from school-year pressures. This trip gave her more confidence in herself and a greater appreciation for the beauty of our country and nature. It is the best thing we could have done for her! – Emanda Lenet, Owings Mills, MD

AT has truly been life-changing for my girls. The people and the community are what make it an unparalleled experience. The ability to create such an intense, welcoming, kind community that truly lets kids be themselves is magical. To really make friendships without technology and outside pressures allows them to be themselves. And of course they loved the outdoors, the challenges and the adventures along the way. Well-run, appropriately fun, and challenging—a terrific experience. – Rachel Berger, Cabin John, MD

This was Grace’s first AT trip. AT has been such a formative experience for her brother that I think she has always been curious to know what all the fuss was about. She wanted to see if she could do it. And actually we wanted to see if she could do it, too. Mission accomplished! As parents, you search for experiences that will stretch and grow your child; from their earliest age you share books and music and art and sports and travel with them. But you CANNOT provide your child the experience AT can—because they can only stretch and grow in some crucial ways in your absence.

AT challenges your child physically, socially and emotionally, but with lots of support and care and fun. It’s everything you want for your kid. The discomfort and physical challenges of the trip were really good for my daughter.

The first backpack on the Olympic Peninsula was really hard for her, but afterward she was exhilarated by her accomplishment and by the bonding her group did through the challenge. And I also believe she loved all that time spent with her peers, away from phones and school, quality time without academic or social pressure. She absolutely loved that. – Laura Miller, Cabin John, MD

You’ll spend lots of time before the trip planning and worrying. During the trip, you’ll be waiting for a phone call, picture, or blog post. After the trip you’ll hear stories every day, for weeks. Totally worth it. Great program; we were new to it, but everything happened as advertised. Happy to recommend to anyone. – Justin Hersh, Gaithersburg, MD

It was an amazing trip filled with incredible instructors, students, and activities. Adventure Treks was very organized from the moment that I first called with questions through to the end of the trip. Landon thoroughly enjoyed the trip and can’t wait to go on another one next summer. I think it was valuable that Landon was part of a community and worked together as a team with other students and instructors to make all of the activities possible. It was great that he was able to strengthen life and social skills.

Communication with the AT office was excellent. Before signing my son up for the trip, I had many questions and Amanda always made time to answer all of my questions.

Kurt called before the trip and it was comforting to hear directly from a instructor who would be on the trip. I found the webinar before the trip to be very informative and helpful. Thank you! – Christine Tamaddon, Stevenson, MD

It’s an incredible experience—one that immerses our kids in nature, connects them with new friends, pushes their boundaries, and fosters fundamental, meaningful interactions. All of this happens under the guidance of inspiring tour guides, in a beautiful setting, and best of all, it comes with a much-needed break from screens. – Sabine Bayer, Washington, DC

Georgia

Adventure Treks is filled with endless opportunities as you develop such a passion for the outdoors while also learning so many new life skills along the way. – Virginia from GA

During AT trips, you learn how to face challenges, and you will make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. – Luke from GA

Adventure Treks taught me resilience because there were many hard moments I pushed through. It’s the best way to be in nature and bond with new people. I was most surprised by everyone’s inclusiveness. The friends on this trip make it extremely fun. – Owen from GA

He’s always liked these kinds of activities with us, but the experience was made so much more special by the AT instructors and the other kids on his trip. He gained real confidence. And most important to me, he gained an appreciation for having a positive mental outlook. This is an experience he will always remember. – Brittany Schwartzwald, Atlanta, GA

The communication from Adventure Treks was top-notch. As we were deciding on a course, we spoke with Amanda. She was patient with all our random questions and very responsive to every request.

Adventure Treks is a safe and fun way to give your kids confidence, especially knowing that they are capable of more than they think. It shows them a part of the world they may not see every day and an appreciation for the world around us.

– Alexa Anderson, Columbus, GA

An adventure Treks experience is not for the faint of heart. Your child needs to want to be challenged, engage with new people and new experiences, follow directions, be an active member of the group, and have lots and lots of fun. This was one of the best things we have ever done for Isaac. He thrived in these conditions. The staff is incredible in so many ways, and they have a huge impact on these kids and the trip experience overall. They are engaging, fun, and active, but also don’t take any crap. This helps to create a deep bond and sense of community between both students and instructors.

There were several more things that were valuable for my son. The community-building and support for and from everyone on the trip was amazing. The kids really bonded. The physical challenge of the activities was great for him, too. He thrives in those situations, and he really rose to the occasion. He came home with more self-confidence, a greater sense of self, and in the absolute best mood! – Mara Silver, Decatur, GA

The experience that you gave Layla was incredible, and I don’t know another way for a 15-year-old to experience the ability to grow and learn real responsibility and how to work with others. One of the first things Layla said to me at the airport was “I think I want to go back.” This was music to my ears. It will teach your child skills that they cannot learn at home, and they will come back a different kid in an awesome way. I would be happy to recommend this program to anyone. Having her learn to work with others to achieve a goal and experiencing things that are not easy. Our kids are all so spoiled these days (we can’t even help it), so it’s good for them to do “hard stuff.” – Mark Rothberg, Atlanta, GA

My child returned happy, more independent, more positive, and with new friends all over the country! He loved AT! He raved about the instructors and students. Everything was awesome! – Tiffany Drilling, Atlanta, GA

Pennsylvania

The friends on Leadership Summit made my Adventure Treks experience absolutely amazing. I loved how close we all are, and how it allows every moment to be so much fun. It’s a unique space where all sorts of people with a common outdoor passion come together and have way too much fun. I learned that I am capable of much more than I let myself believe and that I am capable of making very meaningful relationships. – Olivia from PA

“I can’t say enough about how incredible our experience with Adventure Treks has been.

My middle son was a little late to the adventure scene, joining the summer after his senior year on an incredible trip to Alaska. Our youngest started the summer after 8th grade with a trip to Colorado and hasn’t looked back, heading to BC, California, Peru, and now preparing for his final Leadership Summit trip this summer.

Every one of their experiences with AT has been exceptional. The program is incredibly well organized, and as a parent, I have always felt completely confident that my kids were in the very best hands. The growth, confidence, ability to participate in a group, and memories they’ve gained are unmatched. They are so lucky to have had these opportunities, and we are so grateful to have found such an outstanding program.” – Kristina O’Leary, West Chester, PA

Simon had a wonderful time, learned a huge amount about being in the wilderness and taking responsibility for his own gear and meal prep, and saw some of the most beautiful places on the continent. He also had the opportunity to get to know a neat group of kids and create a special community. He loves traveling and seeing new and different places—the BC trip delivered. It offered him the chance to be in a totally new environment and to learn some of the skills so he could thrive in it. I think the combination of exploring a new place and doing so while taking care of some (though clearly assisted by the excellent instructors) of his own needs was a winning one for him. The instructors were top-notch, all of the details of the trip were clear and well communicated, and the logistics went off without a hitch. – Lila Berman, Philadelphia, PA

AT is an excellent opportunity for development; as Whitman said, “Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons, it is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.” My daughter had a great time! – Mijail Serruya, Merion Station, PA

Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, & Indiana

– Oliver from IL

I always return home from Adventure Treks with a renewed sense of direction, and a wealth of new outdoor experiences. But the best part are the friendships and communities that form. – Ezra from OH

AT is not just a program to be outdoors—it is a community full of loving, funny, sweet people.

Friendships that last will be made. Your love for yourself and the world around you will increase, and your appreciation for it will grow! – Claire from OH

You will be challenged, discover new places and parts of yourself. AT is home. I will forever be thankful for the friends that turned into family along the way. – Lilly from KY

It can be scary to go to AT without knowing anyone there, but once you meet everyone you immediately connect and have loads of fun! – Sammy from KY

Adventure Treks has taught me that I am more powerful than I think, and I can do anything I put my mind to.

My friends this year helped me get over some of my fears and kept me in good spirits. They were all there for me when I needed someone to talk to. My instructors kept the community together, and they were always putting us first. They wanted us to have the most fun we could. – Emma from KY

AT taught me not only to get out of my comfort zone but to take a chance to not to take things so seriously and really have fun with life. – Lucy from IN

As a parent, I really believe it is my job to show my child that he can do hard things. Of course, included in this theory is that we have to expose him to hard things. Challenges he wouldn’t get at home, with new people and in new places. Showing him that some of life’s greatest experiences can be uncomfortable.

So when the time comes that he has a hard obstacle, he can look back at the experiences we have provided him and see that he has in within himself to do hard things.

Being dependent on the instructors alone was valuable. They had to improvise and pivot and change plans when the weather and conditions changed. This helped show Oliver that dealing with the unexpected can be fun. It doesn’t have to be scary. Oliver is showing more confidence. – Katie Porwick, Normal, IL

Adventure Treks is a confidence-building, teamwork-oriented camp focused on helping your child rise up and be their best self, while exploring the outdoors and having fun. Sam had an amazing time! It was exactly what we were looking for in a trip—adventure, teamwork, fun, and new experiences. The trip was well organized, communication before and during was fantastic, and the instructors were awesome. Sam made some great friends and came home confident and happy. I think being independent was awesome, and making new friends without being judged. Everyone has a “box” in high school, and the ability to escape those arbitrary definitions and meet new people was fantastic. Super confidence-building. And he did it while exploring amazing places and doing things he loves. – Sarah Tueting, Naperville, IL

Adventure Treks is an amazing opportunity for kids to gain independence and confidence and see new things with the right amount of support and risk-taking.

My daughter has gained confidence to do things by herself. Hayley has come home each of the last four summers and had absolutely nothing negative to say about the trips! – Maurine McAdams, Chicago, IL

Our son has expressed deep gratitude for the meaningful, challenging, awe-inspiring, and life-affirming experiences of connection, community, joy, effort, play, and adventure he has had on his three trips with Adventure Treks.

As a parent, I especially appreciate the emphasis on fun, relationship-building, leadership, and community, in addition to the outdoor adventure skill-building. – Erika Bright, Cincinnati, OH

This was Alex’s second trip and he had a fantastic experience again. He loved every minute of it. It was challenging yet safe and really helped Alex build confidence in himself while building rewarding friendships with other students. Excellent communication pre- and post-trip. Instructors were very attentive to the students and kept morale high during the trip. – Nick Russell, Kirtland, OH

Everyone from AT who we came into contact with from day one was professional, thoughtful, and thorough, and the trip was everything we hoped it would be.

This was our first trip with Adventure Treks, and compared to other similar trips our children have attended with other organizations, Adventure Treks seemed to have the best understanding of how to balance the challenges and fun. Also, the consistent positive messaging from the instructors made an impression on our daughter. – Richard Gieson, Cincinnati, OH

Our family looks forward to sending our kids on an Adventure Treks trip every summer. The program offers far more than outdoor adventure—it’s a thoughtfully designed experience for teens that blends hiking, backpacking, paddling, and other wilderness activities with meaningful personal growth. The small group sizes and supportive instructors create a safe environment where kids can challenge themselves, build resilience, and form friendships with peers from across the country and around the world. They return home more confident, independent, and connected to nature each year.

We can’t recommend the program highly enough. – Sarah Ludden, Louisville, KY

It was the “best thing Elle did all year” last year. The “most fun thing” she did… and we took great vacations and had some cool experiences… BUT CLEARLY, this is all about the program! What they gain is nothing that we (as parents) can give them. It’s something they gain internally that can not be bought or taken from them. PRICELESS. She loves the community. She can only smile anytime an AT story is told. YOU ALL HAVE THEY KEY… It’s all authentic and real! – Elizabeth Lenihan, Glenview, KY

Virginia & West Virginia

AT will teach you many important outdoor skills and introduce you to many outdoor activities while forging friendships that last a lifetime. Coming into the trip, I only knew one person.

I quickly formed strong friendships with everyone, which made the trip super enjoyable.

AT taught me that I can push myself and do more than I think. My friends were amazing and helped me so much on my trip. They encouraged me and helped me be a strong person. They made my experience one of the best.

The community you become part of sticks with you forever. You’ll never feel alone or scared when you’re with your group.

– Zoe from WV

If your child loves the outdoors, is not afraid of a good adventure. and you don’t have the ability to take two weeks to go into the bush but would love to… send your kid on this program and keep that fire stoked!!!

I like your approach, well-rounded groups, and focus on character development. My son loved all of it.

– Maryah Nijim, Vienna, VA

Lucas counts his two Adventure Treks trips as the best experiences of his life. The first trip was a gift from us to usher him into his high school years. He came away with a foundation of self-confidence and determination, a sense of wonder and appreciation for our natural world, and a realization that what really matters in life are community and connections. It was the perfect way to start his teen years. His second trip he paid for himself, using his savings and work paychecks that were supposed to go toward buying his own car. An Adventure Treks trip was by far his higher priority! He loved his experiences there, and it has shaped him into a really fun, creative, inclusive, positive kid who we are so proud of! My son is more capable, independent, and helpful, but the most valuable were the memories and the friendships he made while there. – Jenna Vincent, Charlottesville, VA

My son gained confidence and was proud of his accomplishments because he achieved things he never had before. He had the best summer of his life. – Aly Gutierrez, Springfield, VA

Zoe had an amazing adventure this summer.

She met some great people and learned a lot about the outdoors and herself. I loved the pictures and the updates. Very happy they were device-free except for the one-time check-in midway through the trip. I believe the most valuable learning lesson was perseverance. They were up against some uncomfortable situations like weather, bugs, terrain, camping. She came home with a sense of accomplishment. – Kimberly Cavill, Harpers Ferry, WV

Maine & Massachusetts

Adventure Treks has taught me that I am so much stronger than I could ever imagine, and if I put my mind to it, I really can do anything. I’ve made great friends, which made my trip awesome. My instructors all got to know me well and had just as much as fun as we had. The trip will end before you know it, so cherish the time you have! – Gabe from MA

The friends I’ve made will allow me to explore new places with new people, and these are relationships I will have for a lifetime. This year I strengthened friendships as well as formed new ones that resulted in an incredible trip. I’ve learned to be able to adapt to difficult situations and still stay positive even through the toughest of the tough, and that people from all around the country can connect on a variety of topics and all come together. Adventure Treks is an experience you can’t do any other time in your life, and you will gain and establish so many skills you’ll always have. – Jack from MA

Attie had the best summer of his life. I can tell he is changed as a person in a positive way. This means a lot to him and to me. I loved the personal, caring, and thorough communication before and during the trip—it felt like people at AT cared and were willing to help you out whenever you needed it—never felt confused or left hanging.

Everyone I communicated with at AT was so warm and helpful. Loved that the directors were involved so deeply. I could tell from the look on Attie’s face that this trip had changed him, and that he had a deeply wonderful experience.

Super fun and one of the best trips your child will ever take in their (teen?) lifetime! It is an opportunity to meet new and interesting people that you will become very close to and come out of the experience with meaningful friendships. Attie loved being able to hear about people’s stories from their different parts of the country and the world. He had such a wonderful group, and the instructors are the best. Very caring, fun, but steady. The different activities that they engage in on each trip are great—so it is not just one thing but at least three different learning experiences on one trip. Traditions are created and remembered. It was on of the best experiences all around that he has ever had. – Erin Rhodes, Damariscotta, ME

Absolute best experience of Jack’s life two years in a row. Every detail was handled in a manner that exceeded our expectations. So much positive has come out of AT. AT gave Jack a gift of a lifetime. He says it changed him. He says Alaska was the BEST month of his life. He says he will remember it forever and will always look back on Alaska and California trips as a huge sense of accomplishment and pride. Independence, grit, friendships, inspiration to do more and see more of the world. Acts of kindness and empathy… I could go on and on. He is staying connected with the friends he has met and making plans for this winter and next summer. While on his way home he sent an email to a restaurant in town applying for an assistant server position. He got the job yesterday! AT gave him the confidence and desire to do more. Take action and live your best life. Forever grateful. – Jennifer Gates, Concord, MA

The kids and the staff were all amazing, and he is already planning on his next trip. – Elyssa Pellish, Westborough, MA

It was an amazing program all around. I was so impressed with the organization, the communication, and the outstanding experience you provided for my son. AT is an amazing adventure filled with an endless array of outdoor challenges that my son and his group conquered together. Each step of the trip brought Jack closer and closer to his fellow adventurers. He fell in love with the outdoors and now wants to conquer the Alaska trip. He learned so much about himself and really grew as a person. It is awesome program, and my son loved it. – John Gates, Concord, MA

AT is the only place you can fully get to know someone on such a deep level in such a short amount of time. It truly teaches you how to make important lifelong connections. – Aleksa from Canada

The friends I’ve made kept me from getting homesick; filled my days with laughter and joy, and made this 21-day trip feel like it lasted 2 seconds. Time flies when you’re having fun.

Adventure Treks taught me to make new friends; to listen and observe carefully; to be up for everything no matter what; to get out of my comfort zone; to separate fun and serious moments; to always take care of others. – Irene from Italy

My friends made my Alaska experience! Everyone was so nice and outgoing. My instructors were all very interested and had high energy. AT has taught me to meet new people, explore, make friends, and dare to lead! – Emil from the Dominican Republic

I learned to be able to appreciate the outdoors and my life in the “real world.” And I was most surprised by my ability to problem-solve in new scenarios! – Neuan from South Korea

AT has changed my life in different ways every time I’ve come. The incredible landscapes are a background to personal growth, perseverance, and connections. There’s no other way I’d rather spend my summer.

My friends on this trip are ones for life. They entertained me through long days and even illness. Laughter was consistent, jokes never-ending. I’ve learned how to care for others and how to be cared for myself (like when I saw others fighting over who got to carry heavy items when some people weren’t feeling well, and donating layers to each other when it was cold). When I show AT photos to friends at home, they are in awe by the scenery and mountains. But what awes me is the people and community. Adventure Treks forms bonds through challenge, shared experiences, helping hands, and laughter. The experience isn’t comparable to anything else. – Izzie from London

Friendships are the reason I come back to AT. The people make every backpack and moment valuable and joyful. My experiences have taught me to be more independent when it comes to planning trips, and they have fueled my passion to spend more time outdoors. – Jorge from the Dominican Republic

AT is a spectacular opportunity for youth to experience outdoor adventures in a safe and fun way. Not only are they outdoors and making incredible memories that are unlike any other, but they are learning about and practicing group dynamics (i.e., communication, empathy, emotional support techniques, etc.) as well as practical skills (cooking, cleaning, campcraft, and hard outdoor skills like backpacking and kayaking). Our child has been four years in a row and has come back calmer, stronger, and more mature each time.

I cannot recommend AT strongly enough! Your child will love it and learn so much!

– Mike Caulkins, Flagstaff, AZ

My daughter absolutely loves AT. All the activities, sleeping under the sky, cooking together, and making great friends. She became a complete outdoor nature-loving child. Program provided amazing care when she became sick. Very happy. She is my second child who did AT. My oldest son did AT in high school, and he is still an outdoor nature-loving adult who already hiked all over the US, Kilimanjaro, Fuji… I believe this program has a secret of how to talk and communicate with teens and make them better adults in the future. – Olga Dolgier, Goodyear, AZ

AT meticulously plans their trips, effectively communicates, and hires great instructors to lead every trip! My son has come back from every AT trip energized, excited to share his experiences, and truly appreciative of how amazing the world is. He is happy, engaged, and relaxed. A parent of a teenager couldn’t ask for more! – Sarah Trautman, Phoenix, AZ

Aidan has had a great time the last three years on his trips. He has gained confidence with each trip and grown as a leader. It’s an opportunity to experience new challenges and environments and see different parts of the country with great people.

The program is well run and well organized. Staff communication was very good, and any questions we we had were answered quickly and thoroughly. Instructors were professional and competent.

– Meghan Strong, Tempe, AZ

It was what we hoped—challenging physically, but he also had a fine time being away from his devices. Based on this experience, he’s hoping to do another outdoor adventure next year. He had a good time, and it felt well organized. – Joel Johnson, Scottsdale, AZ

Adventure Treks facilitates memorable outdoor experiences in the wilderness that both meet young people where they are at (by choosing well-loved foods, teaching them the basics of caring for themselves and others in the backcountry), and challenge them at their edges (by encouraging them to go further or higher on a climb than they have before, by introducing them to new places and outdoor sports, and by asking them to lead cooking of those well-loved foods).

Adventure Treks is amazing; it provides unique opportunities for young people to try new things and have thrilling and memorable experiences. I love how youth learn outdoor and relational skills from responsible instructors, and I would highly recommend it.

– Nora Timmerman, Flagstaff, AZ

It is hard to describe how this experience helped my daughter grow and learn about herself. At first Keira was apprehensive about meeting total strangers and sharing tents, food, and experiences. She ended her trip with sadness over having to say goodbye and came home with amazing stories of happy times and difficult challenges that she crushed! The best part was making new friends eye to eye without the use of social media. She talks to her new friends almost daily! Thank you so much! – Bob Nyberg, Tucson, AZ

Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, & Mississippi

Adventure Treks has taught me how to be a better leader, be better prepared and safe in the outdoors, and how to have fun in difficult situations. – Tavish from TX

I loved the small community that allowed for close bonding. My friendships grew strong and will be cherished for a lifetime. I’ve learned to pursue my passions despite nervousness, to be my most genuine self, and grow in my self-awareness and confidence. It is a life-changing experience where you’ll form indescribable connections and experience incredible things.

Thank you to AT for the incredible instructors for providing such a positive, life-altering trip that has made such a profound difference in my life.

– Sam from KS

Luke loved his time with Adventure Treks. He came home and couldn’t keep his eyes open. He said, “mom, it was so fun all the time. We didn’t sleep much but we weren’t even tired because it was so fun.” – Tracey Butler, Tyler, TX

AT takes great care of kids. They’re clear in expectations, kind, fun, and professional. They do a great job of helping kids build mental toughness and do new things!

Communication prior to the trip was great. I appreciate that there were numerous reminders, and the information was both thorough and clear. I was also able to ask last-minute packing questions, which was great! Knowing what to expect in terms of communication during the trip was also super helpful. Adelle had a great time and spoke highly of all of the instructors. She also made some great friendships. – Sam Hermitte, Austin, TX

AT fosters initiative and hard work under the guise of a great adventure. Back-to-basics living, having to be part of a group, flexing the muscle of human connection and adaptability—all while facing some challenges. Students are held to a high standard of conduct and expectations to participate and contribute for the good of the collective… while being shepherded through exhilarating and beautiful adventures. – Sara Read, Houston, TX

AT is an enrichment camp without being an enrichment camp. My teen refused all other camps but was on board with an “adventure camp.” Unbeknownst to him and due the way AT is structured, he was enriched. He learned resilience, team work, collaboration, and perseverance. AT was exactly what my kid needed: outdoor experiences and physical challenges. – Marna Schacknies, Houston, TX

Adventure Treks is a great opportunity to give my teen a unique experience that he will remember for the rest of his life. AT teaches kids how to work together, rough it, get away from electronics, and get to know people from other parts of the country (and world). – Matt Dossey, Katy, TX

I dropped my son off with a bunch of strangers to disappear into the woods for 16 days. I saw pictures of him with mountains, crossing streams, sea kayaking, rock climbing, and generally goofing off as teens do, being outside in nature with incredible views every day. When he came home, he was glowing, tired, and full of stories to share (which is unusual because he is usually more reserved with sharing).

I can see how proud he is of himself for overcoming the worries and fears he had, and an increased confidence in stepping outside his comfort zone. I also loved that the spend 16 uninterrupted days playing in and experiencing nature, away from screens and other distractions. It is a gift these days to be able to do that for a teenager and I think one that will continue to keep giving in his life. – Judy Le, Houston, TX

John started off not feeling very comfortable sleeping in tents with complete strangers but within a couple of days, he had already made some friends and was having a blast. He’s looking forward to another trip next year! – Taylor White, Argyle, TX

Great experience for teens to individuate while also forming exceptionally strong social bonds. With the absence of technology, they get to really experience life, nature, friendships, and challenges. They rely on themselves and friends to rise to challenges, rather than tech or social media. It is a great way to gain self-awareness of other ways of being in the world and gain confidence. – Mary Thompson, Fayetteville, AR

When our 14-year-old son returned from Adventure Treks, it was obvious he had grown up a lot in 13 days.

We noticed maturity in his identity, community, responsibility, decision making, and physical resilience. Our son had a great experience. The trip was well-planned and executed. – Amy Barklage, St. Peters, MO

Etienne was pleasantly surprised by his ability meet the challenges presented. Adventure Treks provided an environment that taught him responsibility and preparedness. We had a long talk when he got home about how he didn’t think he could do it sometimes, but the instructors were helpful and encouraging. He is proud of what he accomplished and is so excited to share his experiences with his friends. It was a wonderful experience for him to do such hard things and be out in nature. – Katy Ancelet, New Orleans, LA

Adventure Treks surpassed all our expectations and offers the ideal summer experience for your teenager, immersing them in nature and unplugging from devices. It’s not your typical camp with cabins and campus activities; instead, it focuses on teaching invaluable life skills that cannot be learned elsewhere. The program’s administration excels in communication and organization, while the instructors are exceptional. Your child will come back forever changed after attending. My son returned transformed, brimming with renewed energy, passion, determination, and happiness. It provided him with an array of new friendships, thanks to the device-free environment that facilitated quick and meaningful connections with fellow students . Moreover, he has developed a newfound interest in hiking, rafting, and the great outdoors. My son returned transformed in the most positive manner—rejuvenated, enthusiastic, driven, joyful, and having forged numerous new friendships. He encountered opportunities not easily available in MS, leaving a lasting impression. His newfound love for the outdoors has ignited a desire to join the Alaska adventure next summer alongside his new friends.

Don’t hesitate to provide your child with the experience of a lifetime at Adventure Treks. It promises an unforgettable journey that will leave a lasting positive impact.

I have seen the impact on Heidi after her return; she came back more mature and self-confident. – Olgierd Swida, Boca Raton, FL

I did a lot of research on these types of programs before landing on Adventure Treks. I felt AT met my standards of a program where I felt comfortable sending my son for three weeks out in the wilderness. While he was away, I missed him, but I didn’t worry. I knew he was in very capable hands—of himself, as a young adult, and his trip leaders.

We really liked that AT vetted the kids and asked for a teacher recommendation. We liked you wanted to make sure it was a fit for each individual and not about who can pay the cost to fill a spot.

AT did an awesome job providing our son with an exciting outdoor and life experience. He had the opportunity to make decisions on his own, work with other kids to accomplish goals, and form friendships. Plus, the areas he explored were beautiful and very different from his home state of Florida.

– Nicole Brink, St. Petersburg, FL

Adventure Treks has provided my son a unique experience to connect with his peers and nature without the distractions of social media. He has gained independence, confidence in himself, and lifelong friendships. He said these have been his best summers because of AT. – Courtney McBride, Tampa, FL

Sending your child across the country on their own to be cared for by strangers for three weeks outdoors is not a small or easy decision, but this was absolutely the best choice we could make for our son at this time in his life. The trip was a good mix of outdoor adventure activities that he loved like hiking, rafting, and rock climbing, and plenty of time to just be a kid outdoors with other kids (especially without phones and WiFi). This is the type of experience that builds children’s self-esteem and the confidence that they can tackle any obstacle with preparation, persistence, and plenty of snacks. – Lesley Sachs, Osprey, FL

If your daughter is into physical challenges, likes to push her own boundaries, and is always looking for new adventures, then AT is definitely for you! Annie came back super happy. She had a lot of fun and learned so much. – Ana Isava, Coral Gables, FL

An experience that will change the way your child sees the outdoors and their place in it. A lesson in outdoor exploration that will give your child the skills and confidence to trek out on their own or to lead among their family and peers. I think the entire team does such a great job. – Keenan Yoho, Winter Springs, FL

Adventure Treks is such a professional organization. The communication from beginning to end was simply amazing. Not only did this help our son feel ready before the trip but also during the trip, there were lots of photos being taken and sent back home which I know made him feel happy about sharing all the fun adventures he was having during his trip. Hayden had the best time of his life. – Lee Kirkley, Pompano Beach, FL

Adventures Treks trips have provide both of our daughters the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, both physically and socially in safe and accepting environments. Whether on a two-week trip to Colorado or a four-week trip to Alaska, the experiences offered to the kids allow them to challenge themselves with the support, love, and encouragement of the instructors and other students. On the trip, the kids can be kids without the worry of social media. They interact face-to-face with one another and develop bonds unlike anywhere else that can connect them for life. The trip can truly be transformative in a teen’s life and be something they look forward to doing every summer. – Laura Sklenicka, Atlantic Beach, FL

Adventure Treks was such a great opportunity for my daughter to experience a beautiful part of the country she’d never seen, as well as, physical challenges and meeting new people. The first thing she said upon her return was to tell me what trip wanted to go on next year.

Excellent. 5 stars all the way.

– Sarah Bruno, Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Patrick had an amazing time on his Adventure Treks experience to the Pacific Northwest. He gained greater confidence in himself and his own abilities and made lots of friends! The longevity of AT program, especially the years of successfully programming these types of adventure and outdoor activities, group size, and the detail and communication from the administration make AT stand out. For the adventure side, he enjoyed the hiking, kayaking, and especially the whitewater rafting! Also, learning to work toward shared goals with a group of previously unknown people, coming together and getting to know people from all over the US and further was one of the benefits of the trip. Since returning, he has stayed in touch lot of his group and they are planning to meet for another AT experience next summer! – Virginia Lopez, San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Adventure Treks instructors are all so friendly and made my experience so fun. The people on my trip were so inclusive and amazing. This made my experience very enjoyable and fun. AT has taught me how to take responsibility, both in the front and backcountry. It’s also taught me how to advocate for myself. It’s a place where you can be yourself and enjoy yourself in the outdoors. – Jenna from CO

We looked at AT and NOLS. Both seemed outstanding, but Adventure Treks got back to us faster and more personably. My son has a great attitude and a ton of potential. He also spends way too much time on his phone and playing video games. He has worked super hard in school and enjoys some sports, but mostly his big successes were related to video games. Until the Adventure Treks trip to Peru! Since his return we have heard many stories about counting on his group, learning to work with and trust people, trying new things, and discovering history with new eyes. He has even joked about putting his phone down for hours and then not knowing where it is, which was unheard of just a few weeks ago. On top of all that, Max just loved the food, the friends, the instructors, and the mountains! 10 out of 10 for sure. PS: Max left home “hating” fruit. After a day of fruit tasting in Peru, he has been converted! – Camille Brightsmith, Kittredge, CO

I cannot give a more enthusiastic endorsement of AT and how good it will be for other parents’ kids. They will remember it for the rest of their lives. Everything at AT is so incredibly professional and well-organized. Ivan absolutely loved both of his AT trips. Your professionalism and communication is fantastic. AT is really an amazing organization. – Dan Levitt, Denver, CO

We have two children; they are different in every way, and yet they both came back having a great time. The company and staff are well organized, the instructors were terrific, and the itinerary created a lot of opportunities for challenging them physically and mentally, for connecting and collaborating closely with new friends and with their instructors. I think they developed their collaboration skills, by working with the group, to get normal daily tasks completed, as well as difficult hikes done in time. I also think the whole experience gives you each person a more full appreciation for nature. – Matt Freedman, Aspen, CO

Adventure Treks has literally been life-changing for our son. He just finished his third trip, and each one has been a wonderful experience. It has given him a life long love for the outdoors, independence, confidence, leadership, camaraderie, patience, and relationships. Our son’s experience with Adventure Treks has also helped guide him to find the right college and degree. The trips have given him the confidence and independence to start college without wavering. Our son has formed life-long friendships and a love for the outdoors. – Michelle Dudley, Louisville, CO

Adventure Treks is a wonderful outdoor adventure. It builds self-confidence, self reliance and friendship building skills—all in spectacular scenery with opportunities to challenge yourself physically, but most important have fun and make memories.

I would recommend without hesitation Adventure Treks as a company that wholeheartedly took care of my child. I sent him from Australia, but at no time did I have a worry. Communication was always easy and very responsive. Direct, personalised contact with Amanda was unexpected but greatly appreciated.

My son has arrived home and the stories keep coming. His younger brother can’t wait until he is old enough and it is his turn!

AT was like hitting the jackpot for my boy! Highly recommend without hesitation.

– Melinda Morris, Perth, Australia

We highly recommend the experience with AT because the outdoor activities are used to convey important lessons in personal growth within an extremely positive and welcoming environment. As parents, we always got fast and comprehensive feedback to any query we had. – Lorenzo Tessera, Lombardy, Italy

Since returning, he has stayed in touch lot of his group and they are planning to meet for another AT experience next summer! – Virginia Lopez, San Juan, Puerto Rico

Our son was already very independent, but Adventure Treks has made him more self-sufficient. He has developed deep connections with people he’s met, and he has a much better perception about the world. This year, all of the activities were exciting to him, from casual social time to challenging adversity (a freezing river crossing in Alaska). I think the challenges on the trip were the most formative because he developed a sense of what he can achieve through problem-solving. That kind of “won grit” is a tremendously valuable life skill. – Jason Thrasher, Berlin, Germany

There is nothing better to describe my kid’s experience than the fact that she can’t wait till next summer to hopefully meet some old and new friends in Alaska!

Adventure Treks provides a safe, inclusive, encouraging, and supportive environment for kids who want to experience new adventures, discover their abilities, learn their limitations, gain new skills, and meet like-minded friends. AT gave Aleksa chance to take a break from constant peer pressure and social media interactions. She was able to give herself the opportunity to reflect and discover and get greater appreciation for the world and life around her, people, environment, wildlife, etc.

After a busy, often hectic and stressful school year, AT gave her a chance to actively restore herself, build confidence, learn new skills, make new friends and rediscover herself as a better person. She speaks highly of all her instructors as amazing friends and true mentors. Every year she comes back with new skills and lifelong memories. She comes back more mature, confident, caring with new skills and appreciation of herself and others. But most important she has fun and comes back happier. AT is very well organized and safe. I feel comfortable sending my child to the camp and leaving her in hands of such nurturing, skilled, supportive and fun people.

– Kasia Dolecki, Surrey, British Columbia

Fifteen nights in a tent, carrying a heavy backpack for days at a time, getting wet and muddy, no electronics at all, and not knowing a single other person at the outset sounds like a recipe for a miserable teenager. But my son came home with a huge smile and is already talking about next summer. The independence, varied activities, supportive staff, and focus on FUN made this one of the best experiences my son has ever had (and he’s traveled to more than 15 countries and done plenty of outdoor adventuring before, so that’s saying a lot!). – Laurie Fitzgerald, Dublin, Ireland

My daughter will have memories she will cherish forever; she will definitely never forget this trip. AT gives attention to every detail— nothing is left out in terms of security, and this is very reassuring for a parent. The instructors are fantastic and clearly love what they are doing. They create a close bound between everyone. The trip strengthened her confidence, teamwork skills, leadership. AT is always here from beginning to the end, and they respond quickly to any question. – Caroline Estier, London, England

Sending my son to Adventure Treks started as a way to get him outdoors and socializing. What I didn’t expect was how transformative it would be. Just last night he told me that if he’d never gone, he’d probably want a desk job—but now he knows he’ll never be happy sitting in an office. Adventure Treks has completely shaped the path he wants for his life: studying engineering, but with an outdoor twist.

Over the years, he’s gained so much—confidence walking into situations where he knows no one, leadership skills, resilience, and a sense of purpose. He even went on to earn his wilderness first responder certification. He’s had the chance to explore California, Colorado, British Columbia, Alaska, and even Norway with Adventure Treks, and each trip has left a deep mark.

The friendships are just as enduring as the experiences. The bonds these kids form are incredible—years later, several of his Adventure Treks friends have come to stay with us, and it’s clear the connections last far beyond the trips.

Adventure Treks hasn’t just given my son great summers—it has set the course for his life. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

– Jeanne Jermyn, London, England

AT is a highly beneficial experience for all teens, as so many spend so little time disconnected from social media and modern life. Spending active time in nature is extremely essential, and I am so happy that the kids got to experience and love it. – Dina Aly, Cairo, Egypt

We were looking for something for Caitlin to do this summer that stretched her physically and emotionally, while giving her a sense of independence. California Challenge delivered on all this. She not only had a blast, bonding with other teens and instructors over the 24-day trip through fun activities, but she walked away with a better understanding about how every individual is important to the functioning of a group. She learned about collaboration and teamwork and if done right, any activity can be fun! Caitlin has not stopped talking about all the amazing things they did hiking, whitewater rafting, biking, climbing, and just hanging out on logistics days. She loved every moment of it and came home all fired up to continue finding adventure in everything she does! – Cathy Cole, Hong Kong

AT has been a life-changing experience for our children and will always have a very special place in our hearts.

AT is an experience I will cherish forever. Even through the rougher days, there wasn’t a second that a mile wasn’t on my face. We live in a beautiful world, why not explore it?

Adventure Treks taught me to never give up and to persevere through adversity. Additionally, it helped teach me valuable social skills and the value of being outdoors.

AT is a great place for kids with lots of curiosity about the outdoors. Your trip will feel like a second family and you will learn so much about yourself.

I made some really great friends who made my experience very meaningful and super fun. I am super grateful for them. AT has taught me how to do hard things.

Don’t think about whether or not you are going to have 10/10 fun for reach activity—it will be so much better than you can imagine, and your friends will make even the down days the highlight of the trip. I’ve learned that keeping long-distance friendships isn’t hard! It’s easier than I thought to get closer to people in such a short amount of time, and I’ve made some great friends I expect to keep for a long time.

I loved the relationships I made on the trip; it was awesome to meet new people and feel like we had known each other for a long time. AT is an awesome way to explore the outdoors, make new friendships, and overall just learn to enjoy life.

AT was an awesome experience that gave me new friends, confidence, and a love for the outdoors. It is a great way to escape a hectic life and experience nature with a great group of people.

AT’s a really cool place to try new things and learn about yourself. It also lets you appreciate the world around you in a new way.

I think the people you meet at AT are the major reason the trips are so good. I cam ehere not knowing anybody, and I felt like I had already developed great friendships halfway through my trip. The best thing AT taught me was how to live in the moment.

My AT trip taught me to not be shy to take risks, make friends, or leave my comfort zone. My friends made me feel so much more comfortable and free and absolutely benefitted my trip.

The friends I made on this trip elevated the overall experience. Every sight and activity was made better by the convos, quoets, and actions of my friends.

It’s a challenging but very valuable and exciting experience! The community was so welcoming, and I definitely found like I found my place, even though it was my first summer. The friends I made here made it so, so fun. And I learned I can do hard things even if I thought I couldn’t at first.

I love the kind of people who do these trips. No one was judgmental and I laughed so hard. It was fun to be with people who were excited, too. I learned that I’m stronger than I think. It was an epic outdoor adventure, camp-style! You’ll get close with a whole group of amazing people, and be rewarded for stepping outside of your comfort zone!
