Alumni Interview: Lillie Rohrbach
Year after year, our students return to Adventure Treks to reconnect with close friends from around the country, ground themselves in the beauty of the natural world, discover their inner voice, and realize their potential. As our students grow each summer and eventually age out from our program, the bonds they’ve created often evolve as they return to the community in the future–but this time, as instructors.
These staff come with a rich perspective on what it means to be an AT kid, the value of screen-free summers, and the impact of stepping outside your comfort zone to uncover the resilience and pride that lies inside.
We caught up with AT alum and instructor Lillie Rohrbach, who joined us as a student from 2017 to 2019 and is now an instructor with us. Lillie recently graduated from the University of Utah with her bachelor’s degree, and since then, she’s been spending time with family, learning how to speak Russian and how to play piano, and is packing in all the certifications: EMT, Leave No Trace, and a mental health first aid course for children and adults—all before heading back to Adventure Treks for another summer!
In our interview, Lillie reflects on her years as a student and gaining new perspectives as an instructor, the importance of saying “yes” more often, and the reward of presenting hats to Scooby Doo–obsessed students!
