Cariena lived in many different places, growing up in a military family, but she now calls Eugene, OR, home. While at the University of Oregon, Cariena teaches climbing classes at the rock wall. She’s also taught climbing and led hiking, whitewater rafting, and climbing trips at a summer camp. She also works as a trip leader for the university, leading backpacking trips for students.

I really love to backpack, rock climb, and standup paddleboard! I love any activity where I can be near the water because I am a frog at heart. When I can’t be outside, I am always making different things, but I especially love painting and baking.
A highlight that sticks out to me to this day was my very first backpacking trip. It was in the Oregon Dunes, which are so huge and full of sand that it felt like we were on the moon!

My favorite place is probably Mount Hood. I have gone camping there with family the last few years, and it is full of so many fun memories. It’s beautiful up there and so nice to connect with nature.
