Cate

Trip leader

Originally from Massachusetts, Cate now calls Burlington, VT, home. At the University of Vermont, Cate leads backpacking and backcountry skiing trips through the Outing Club; she’s also been a part of the leadership development program that focuses on safety and risk management and mentorship through backcountry skiing. She’s a lab technician at the spatial analysis lab, working with GIS software. Cate has worked as a counselor at Singing Eagle Lodge Camp in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, where she taught canoeing, rock climbing, and orientation skills, and as a kids’ swim instructor for several summers.

  • Education: University of Vermont, pursuing bachelor’s degree in geography and global studies
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder, AIARE avalanche rescue & education, lifeguard
  • Favorite outdoor memory: I led a group of students on a canoe trip on Squam Lake, NH, in the pouring rain. Just as we arrived back to shore, clouds cleared and an end-to-end rainbow stretched across the lake over us. A magical ending to a very soggy, bumpy trip!
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: Completing a Spartan race in Killington, VT!
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: The Chic-Choc Mountains in Gaspésie National Park, Quebec
  • Favorite hobbies: ‘I am very passionate about leading and teaching people in outdoor spaces. I am a big advocate for experiential education. I am also passionate about food! I have spent the past three months abroad studying food production, processing, access, and distribution. I also love to cook, garden, and share food with others.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? I can’t wait to watch my students build confidence in themselves while taking on new challenges! I am also looking forward to mentoring students while learning from both them and my fellow co-instructors.
  • Previous Adventure Treks trips include Colorado Explorer
