Favorite hobbies
Trail running, tree climbing, kayaking, and taking naps in the sunniest patches I can find. When I’m not exploring, I love to read books, practice music, and work on random crafting projects. I’m currently using pyrography to etch designs onto a six-foot wooden staff.
Favorite outdoor achievement
I thru-hiked all 2,194.3 miles of the Appalachian trail in 2022.
Favorite outdoor memory
Summiting Mt. Mulanje in Malawi, Africa, only to be enshrouded in a thick, gray cloud. We couldn’t see a thing until the clouds suddenly parted on the descent, revealing a mountainscape so majestic that we started singing the Sound of Music soundtrack. It was a breathtaking, surreal moment shared with beautiful friends.
Favorite place in the world
During a hike, a group member dropped their phone into a lake and then dried it overnight in a pot of rice. The next morning, he was looking for his phone. Suddenly, a warbling tune came from the pot of rice someone was boiling for breakfast—his alarm clock! It was a sad fate for his phone but in that moment, we all could not stop laughing. It became a joke of the trip, and his phone even worked afterward!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
The chance to build those tight-knit, real connections that come from shared challenges and time unplugged in the outdoors.
