Instructor

Roman grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and calls the Bay Area home. This winter, he worked for the Oxygen Ski School in France. Previously, he worked for Positive Adventures as an outdoor educator, and he was an instructor with Experience Learning in West Virginia. He’s also worked at Sanborn Western Camps in Colorado as the arts coordinator, leading backpacking trips as well. He then moved on to Snow Mountain River, an outdoor outfitting shop in Arizona. Roman has also worked at a ski resort in California.

Favorite hobbies

I have recently reignited my passion with knitting (lots and lots of hats). After trying backcountry split boarding, I immediately loved it and look forward to continuing next winter! I have also taken up fly fishing as long as it starts with a long trek in.

Favorite outdoor achievement

Current highlight is split boarding up the Glacier Du Borgne in the French Alps (then eating good cheese on top of the mountain!)

Favorite outdoor memory

One of my favorite memories is a two-day backpacking/flyfishing trip in the Eastern Sierras and seeing a beautiful golden trout while fishing off of snowbanks.

Favorite place in the world

One of my favorite places is the Sierra Nevadas near Donner Pass; the many lakes and beautiful trails make getting into nature easy and accessible.

What are you most excited to experience this summer?

I am really excited to be working on two trips, and seeing how the staff team develops and grows together. I can’t wait to meet the students and get out in nature!
