Favorite hobbies
Skiing has always been my favorite outdoor activity both alpine and cross country because it allows you to be outside having fun in the snow and cold. I recently have become very passionate about fly fishing and have loved the learning process that comes with the sport. I love to backpack and canoe camp as well as travel the world and experience new cultures. I enjoy playing card games with friends and reading a good book.
Favorite outdoor achievement
My favorite trip as a canoe guide was an all-girls trip for a week and a half through some of the most difficult portages and beautiful lakes the Boundary Waters has to offer. It was such an empowering trip for myself and my co-guide because the girls were so strong and determined to tackle the challenges of the trip. Many of the girls on the trip have gone on to become canoe guides and have told me that trip inspired them to become guides, which makes me so proud to have been a part of that.
Favorite outdoor memory
When I was studying abroad in Ecuador I lived in an indigenous community in the mountains to do research on the soil quality of the volcano Chimborazo. I remember after collecting samples for the day I would lay in the grass and look out over the valley and just watch the mountain, the clouds, and the alpacas on the hillside. To this day it’s the most peaceful, beautiful place I’ve ever been.
Favorite place in the world
My family cabin in northern Minnesota near the Boundary Waters. The loons, the lake, the fishing, the family time, and no service or wifi.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people and creating connections with students in the outdoors so they are inspired to continue living life outside.
