Liza

Trip leader

Having grown up in the Green Mountains, Liza still calls Vermont home. Most recently, she worked as a hiking guide in Smoky Mountain National Park and Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. She has also been a teaching coordinator for Trackers Earth, facilitating overnight camp programs for high schoolers, and as a homeschool instructor for students in Vermont, teaching kids ages 7 to 13. She co-founded Sprouts Wilderness, a program that ran day programs and overnight backpacking trips for kids and teens. While at UVM, Liza spent her summers as a counselor for Camp Downer.

  • Education: University of Vermont, bachelor’s degree in environmental studies
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Of all the places I’ve travelled to and the “big” outdoor achievements I’ve added to the list, I think my favorite place to be is still in the Green Mountains moseying around looking at trees and practicing my naturalist ID skills.
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Great Smoky Mountains National Park. An ocean of rolling hills as far at the eye can see.
  • Favorite hobbies: Hiking, running, camping, plant ID, gardening, and generally nerding out over trees. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with contra dancing—”caught fire,” as they say. I’m chasing dance weekends around the southeast this spring, and go dancing each week too. I’m also getting into swing a bit, too.
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: The Talkeetnas backpack in Alaska last summer is something I’ll never forget. Bushwhacking, sundogs, river crossings, and all!!! AMAZING.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? The people!! Building community outdoors with vibrant, young, goofy, intentional, and caring individuals.
  • Previous Adventure Treks trips include Alaska Expedition
