Instructor Resource Page
Adventure Treks strives to be a resource for people in the outdoor education world, including current and alumni AT instructors. We’ll keep this page current with news, updates, events, and helpful information regarding professional development, courses, and certifications.
October 4, 2022
First, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make summer 2022 at Adventure Treks possible. Instructors, “guest stars,” gear transporters, meal makers, and more… running a successful AT summer requires so much from so many people, and it did not go unnoticed. Moving all of our gear to Washington and running orientation in a new location was a little hectic, and it required a lot of creative problem-solving and go-with-the-flow attitude. Thank you to everyone who patiently helped us figure it out! Now that we have a lovely new AT home base in Washington, we’ll steadily make some cozy renovations, like better showers, covered teaching areas, a hot tub (probably not, but you never know)…
After every summer, the administrative team gathers to comb through every piece of feedback we receive from instructors, students, and parents. We genuinely appreciate the thought and time put into your responses, which will ultimately help us improve the summer experience for the entire AT community. We’ll keep you updated on summer 2023 updates and improvements as we brainstorm and plan for next year!
Speaking of feedback, we know many 2022 instructors would like to receive their specific feedback from co-instructors this past summer. Kent will soon share individualized feedback with those folks.
Parent testimonials
Our families see the results of your hard work when their kids come home from a fun, epic, and challenging trip with so much personal growth and so many stories, and they want you to know that it means a lot to them, too. Click here to read parents’ testimonials from summer!
Welcome Kent and Jordan!
We are SO excited to introduce Kent Ratliff and Jordan Carr as our operations director and staffing director! Kent has worked seasonally with Adventure Treks since 2018 and Jordan since 2020, and we are thrilled that they’re joining us year-round!
Celebrating 30 years
Adventure Treks will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023! We have some exciting ideas in the works for an upcoming celebration event; meanwhile, we would love to get some of our incredible AT artists involved in designing a special hat and T-shirt for summer 2023. If you would like to participate, email any design ideas or questions to Jordan by November 18.
WFR recertification and other courses
A quick reminder that working the full 2023 AT summer means you’ll receive a $200 reimbursement for a WFR recertification course. SOLO and NOLS both have availability in upcoming courses. Also, Alpenglow Education has a behavioral first responder course in Asheville, NC, from Nov 7–9. Anyone who completes this course and works a full AT summer will be reimbursed up to 50% of the course cost (the reimbursement includes the online course version for those who don’t live near Asheville).
Full-time job opening
Adventure treks is hiring! We are seeking a full-time admissions manager to join our year-round team. The full listing will be posted this week; please email us at amanda@adventuretreks.com in the meantime if you’re interested in learning more!
