‘Dock Talk’ and Clinics Day

wpdev30 Jun, 2016

A quick update from instructor Emily Riggs:

Alaska 1a had a wonderful first day here at our new temporary home, Eagle River campsite in Anchorage. We had a slow wake-up this morning as east coasters adjusted to time change and all travelers decompressed from a long journey from their respective homes all the way up to the last frontier. We kicked the morning off with an Adventure Treks tradition of French toast, cooked in small cook groups. After breakfast, we heard the “Dock Talk,” leaving us inspired and excited to finally begin the trip we have all been so eagerly awaiting. We then transitioned into some clinics that will prepare us for this trip, learning about tent and tarp set-up, knots, how to be safe in moose and bear country, and river crossings. We finished the evening with a Yahoo feast, indulging in some AT favorites, including a few Alaska specials like reindeer sausage and salmon. The rain came down hard during our grill-out, but spirits stayed high! We had an awesome first day and are all looking forward to a great trip!
